28 years old - check.
Lives in parents' basement - check.
Aspiring politician - check.

That's three strikes. :D

Mid-Daily Items: Messy bedroom triggers '911 emergency'

An Ohio man who argued with his grown son over a messy bedroom says he overreacted when he called 911.

Andrew Mizsak called authorities Thursday after his 28-year-old son threw a plate of food across the kitchen table and made a fist at him.

His son, also named Andrew, lives with his parents and has a room in the basement.

The father declined to press charges and told police he doesn't want to ruin his son's political career. The younger Mizsak works as a political consultant and is a school board member in Bedford, a Cleveland suburb.

The son says he and his father love each very much and that he's lucky to be living in the house rent free. He also promises to keep his room clean.

Bet he's big with the ladies, too.

Here's an idea, Andrew: you're having issues with your parents because you don't want them controlling your life. You just want them supporting it and letting you do whatever you want.

You don't get both: either get your own place and support yourself (the FAR more healthy option) or put up with your parents controlling your life.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Man, you couldn't pay me enough to live with my parents again. Don't get me wrong, they're good people with a nice home. I just have this thing about living my own life.  =D

I knew a guy once who did that to get out of debt and get his finances straightened out.  He just told me it was "extra special" to get dressed for work and have your mother tell you how wonderful you look every morning.  :D
He moved out as soon as he could.

Somehow, I think Andrew's political career is over anyways, charges or not, after this story hits lexisnexis and is searchable by his opponents.

He could be a community organizer, too.

What's with guys living with their parents? How do you get laid doing that? The back seat of a car is fine for high school, but at 28 years old?

My parents persuaded my younger brother to move out of their house at the tender age of 35 by selling the house.

1. Who says they get laid?
2. Girls with low self-esteem
3. Alcohol
4. Did I mention the girls with low self-esteem?

There comes a time when it's time to cut the cord...

My wife's uncle is 53 and still lives with his dad, mom died.  They both have the same name, so the uncle proceeds commit fraud by signing up for credit in his dads name.  Hundreds of thousands of dollars went into paying off the debt.  He blew the entire estate.  Most of the money went to strip clubs.

Did I mention he weights 550+ lbs

The bright side is he doesn't have any political aspirations that I know of.

But, he does idolize the group KISS.

Don't crack on the BBW.  The ain't never gonna be petite and they know it.  The pathetic ones are the girls who weigh 115 and think they're fat.  Their need for approval is so sad.

Where does it say that his father is supporting him? According to the article, he's a school board member in Cleveland. This is normally a paid position. He's also a political consultant.

These guys, school board dudes in a different part of Cleveland, get paid $38,000 per year.

I can't imagine that Miszak, Jr. works in the same job slot for free.

He's living under his father's roof. Unless he is paying rent, his father is supporting him.

Secondly, a raised fist after throwing a plate of food is assault.

You're assuming he threw the plate at his father. This is nowhere in the article. In fact, "Throwing a plate across the table" seems completely different to me.

It's still not the same thing as someone who perpetually has no job and demands that his family support him.

Point 1: I am not assuming he threw the plate at his father. Throwing a plate of food is an act of anger. Making a fist at someone in an act of anger constitutes assault.

Point 2: While it may not be the same thing, it is a difference in degrees rather than a difference in kind.

Not under Ohio law:

Quote
2903.13 Assault.

(A) No person shall knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm to another or to another’s unborn.

(B) No person shall recklessly cause serious physical harm to another or to another’s unborn.

Quote
Point 2: While it may not be the same thing, it is a difference in degrees rather than a difference in kind.

I disagree entirely. He's not skiving off on some form of charity, he's not 'looking for a job' for ten years, he's a contributing member of society (not that I think it's a social duty to have a job, but it's an entirely different matter). It's quite likely he's supporting his father in other ways than the simple modicum of money, too.

[For full disclosure, I live with my family. I am also currently unemployed because my last workplace shut down in January. I will probably move out in the beginning of the next academic year, however). I was supposed to move out in March, but as you see I am still here.]

Looks like I am incorrect on Ohio law. It's not assault, it's aggravated menacing.

Secondly, the turmoil that exists in that family is most likely the adult desire to control his own life coupled with the adolescent desires to be provided for. He doesn't want to give up his free room, but he doesn't want to live under rules, either.

I have family experience with this as well. I am applying my observations from my own family to what I see in the news story.

Not every adult living in their parents' house is mooching off of them, though. However, it will always cause turmoil.
