I am upgrading a 2000 server with a bunch of stuff on it to 2008 server.
I had to leapfrog to 2003sp1 temporarily in order to avoid a full blown wipe.
So I'm at 2003sp1, going thru the 2008 upgrade.
It says I can't upgrade and still have to wipe because... get this... I have Front Page server extensions installed.
(Evidently it installed as a default option on my 2003 upgrade... I don't even use IIS on this box.)
So, upgrade is disabled. Srsly. I close the upgrade, go to add/remove programs and uncheck the box for front page server extensions. Go back to the 2008 installer program. Took me all of about 30 seconds to accomplish.
Doesn't even suggest that I go and remove front page extensions manually if I want to upgrade. Just says I can't.
Srsly.
There's no freakin' justification to blow away my C: drive and refuse to read my registry settings for my application services currently installed, just because MS is too lazy to make a competent installer program.
