RIP. At least he has good company yet again. Lot of good folks are passing on these days. At least some of Mr. Powers' stories were heard, recorded and shall be remembered. That's more than what most get...
I met Powers' CO, Major Richard Winters, in passing. Our unit was literally right down the street from his place. It was prior to the HBO series, and none of us knew who he was besides a WWII vet. All we knew was he had a DSC. That was more than enough. It is sacred Army lore that anyone with a DSC is someone who deserved The Medal, but either annoyed someone important or got screwed by the system. He was a very kind, very humble and had great presence. None of us knew what he got his DSC for and guessed about it, all Major Winters said was "he commanded excellent soldiers". Most of us felt like complete retards when we saw the Band of Brothers series.
