I like the concept of lasergrips, but I don't understand why they don't put the laser on the other side, so I don't have to constantly block the laser with my trigger finger.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I have a S&W Chief's Special Model 60 that I have had for 30 years.  I can't hit anything with it but that is not what it is for.  I use it with shot for snakes down at camp.  Otherwise, it is stashed in the house for protection....chris3

'Cuz it would interfere with a speedloader.

I've got a 642-1 and an SP-101.

Both are great guns.  I wouldn't expect the 642 to hold up as a long term range plinker, though.  The SP will.

I shoot the SP much better, but I have only put about 100 rounds through the 642.  It's the gun I slip into my pocket when I don't want to mess around with actually carrying for real.  As such, it's there to be the opportunistic robber-stopper at very close distance.

I'd REALLY like someone to get one of the new AMT's being put out by High Standard in Houston.  I find myself wanting an AMT Backup in .45 or .400corbon (I still have dies, ammo and other leftovers from my Glock 21 experiment which I've since sold), but the old pre High Standard ones have a bad reputation, and no one I know has yet reviewed the new ones.

I have a Crimson Trace on one of my SP-101's, and I like it a whole lot.  As my eyes age more, I think the concept of laser sighting is growing on me.

And AZ, bearing in mind that I own several AMT DAO Backups, and they have all been super reliable for me, I would not buy one today.  When they first came out in the early 80's, they were the bees knees: compact, dehorned, stainless and DAO in major calibers.  They were amongst the first such pistols available.  Now, there are many, many pistols available with a similar feature set that are much lighter in weight via the use of polymer or alloy frames.  The weight of my Backups is what often prevents me from carrying them.  I would point out though, that my 9 mm DAO Backup is still the smallest 9 mm pistol I own.  I think you have to get down to the Rohrbaugh to find something smaller.

Millcreek: do you find the extra weight aids in controlling such a small pistol?

FWIW, I have been able to shoot a DA revolver damned quickly, almost on par with my 1911s.  SA, not so much, hence my questioning your operator status, Cmdr. I doubt even Jerry Miculek could SA a revolver as fast as an autoloader, and he's blazingly fast with a revolver.

Then again, my race revolver was tuned specifically for Steel Challenge/Bianchi Cup/PPC...

I've tried a Taurus PT111, Ruger SP101, and a Ruger LCR. Of the three the LCR wins hands-down for an everyday pocket gun. If I can wear a heavy belt and have some kind of cover garment, it's the 101.

If I recall correctly, the last time I weighed my 9 mm DAO loaded, it came in at around 29 ounces.  The weight clearly helps control, in comparison to say, my Taurus PT-111 with the polymer frame or the S&W 669 with the alloy frame.  It goes back to that "light for carry vs. weight for firing" issue.  Given the size of the small grip on the Backup, every bit of weight for control helps.

If they were on the other side, you'd probably block it with your thumb.
