A Bedside Accessory For Gun Nuts

Don't know if this has been all over the internet already, but I thought it was pretty funny. Actually, it's not a bad idea:

Video here.

It's not a spoof at all. That's just an old video with the incorrect URL.

Yep, it's real, but IMO only makes sense for adults living alone. Utterly useless if you have kids.

If it could be made "police cruiser style", where it locked, preventing a shotgun from being pumped, or the trigger and safety manipulated, but could be quickly accessed with a combination like the GunVault product, color me interested.

GunVault did have something like that, but not for beds, sort of a hardened "George Foreman Grill" that clamped over the shotgun's receiver, but I guess it didn't sell well.
I promise not to duck.

OK, now that I know the ad is real, it's ridiculous. They should show the people firing their shotguns and then falling back on their pillows from the recoil.

That said, I've often pondered a quick-access device for my shotgun, but I wouldn't want it exposed when I wasn't home.

I'd think you could easily pull the shotgun from the rack and lock it in the safe when you're not home....

It is an interesting thought though I'm not sure I care for the location.  You could just hang a holster on the carry loops of your mattress.  It would be covered up a little that way.   :)

Actually, if I remember correctly, the NRA Store was selling one of those for pistols a while back.

Use a sheet, next size up from your bed, and spread it over the top of your box springs.  Then put the mattress on top.  Put the rack and shotgun under the sheet.

I've seen ads for an item that was like a holster, but attached to a shelf that slid in between the mattress and springs.

This product reminds me of the set-up I had in Bosnia, where the previous occupant had put a sheet of plywood under the mattress.  I slid the bed out a few inches from the wall, and pushed the board against the wall.  That way I had a little pocket for my M249, so no one could get to it without reaching across me, but it's sticky-out parts and right angles wouldn't be a nuisance while I slept.

At least he didn't say "hangy-down parts".

I've had one of those bed holsters for a pistol before, Kydex with a flat portion intended to go between the mattress and box spring.

I'd like something similar to the OP's topic for my own bedside 870Mk1 and/or Krinkov someday.

Giving proper nomenclature for every knob and protuberance on the M249 would result in a very long sentence indeed.  I seem to recall that the mother of one of RevDisk's battle buddies knitted SAW cozies to pad them.

Yep.  The first couple of SAW cozies were very distinctly uh "non-tactical".  Pastels and such.  We got some stares...  Which made it even funnier.  But it really did work well.  It kept the weapon from getting ice cold, kept the protruding bits from prodding you, cut down drastically on the weapon snagging, lessen noise, etc.  I really do miss my SAW, but it is not very cuddle friendly by default.   =|

I like the idea re the Back Up, but not the implementation.  One, the hooks should be neoprene covered.  I'd rather not like to think of falling off the bed and hitting those hooks with any part of my body.

I would have loved to have one of those, just to see the reaction from my unit.

The SAW is a weapon that I grew to appreciate, especially the shorter bbl and collapsible stock.  Made it downright cute.

I must plug my M203, though, as my absolutely favoriteist, grin-inducing weapon I ever toted:

"No, you got your HEDP mixed up with my 5.56mm!"

Oh, and any of you that want to produce a quick-access keypunch safe for a shotgun, go on ahead---I'll buy two.

Ayep.  Lot of folks have used tons of creativity in field expedient weapon securing.  One of my favorites was a buddy of mine that ran a metal wire through a 550 cord sleeve, securing himself to the wire.  Folks thinking he just used 550 cord, thought they'd be cute to steal it, tried to snip it and...   Yep.

The mini SAW was my favorite piece.  Perfect for convoy duty, hitting up the clubs, or laying down suppressive fire.  Not so good beyond 200m, but for spitting distance, it was beautiful.

It's a favored game to sneak up on a soldier and steal his/her weapon.  It's a fun game, and it reinforces the notion that you need to retain your weapon.  Folks have lots of tricks to both steal a weapon and to keep their weapon from being stolen.

An old and inefficient trick is to use 550 cord to attach yourself to your weapon.  Someone snatches it, they're taking the person with em.  Except folks just cut the 550 cord.  My buddy used metal wire because it's harder to cut.  But it has its own drawbacks, so he stripped the guts out of the 550 cord and ran the relatively heavy wire through the 550 cord shell.  Folks do the same thing for their dog tags to keep the chain from ripping hairs out of their neck.

I did a reverse trick occasionally.  Two thin wires that ran current, run through a bit of 550 cord.  Cut the current, it trips a very annoying buzzer.
