Now this "healthy" thing has gone entirely too far !!

My wife found one of my all time favorite treats/snacks.

Leibniz butterkeks or "Keks" as we called them.  When I was stationed in Germany I used to give my driver a pile of cash before each field exercise with the understanding that he was to keep us in pop, sunflower seeds, keks and cigarettes.

I had only seen them here in Chicago maybe 10 or so times since we left in 91.

So she came home the store the yesterday, and announced that she had a surprise for me. 

She pulls out the familiar yellow and red sleeve of Leibniz Butterkeks !!

Mrs Scout and I are very excited.  The kids are...... "puzzled indifference" would describe it best. 

I greedily pull the tab that unpeels the end, fold down the corrigated white packaging, and pull out the first kek.  The all important one, that frees all the rest from the package.

Hmmmm. I don't remember them being this dark looking.....

Hmmmm, that's not quite the taste I remember....

I look again at the package.

"WHOLE WHEAT, BAKED WITH SUNFLOWER OIL"   


WTF ??  I mean seriously W. T. F. 

Is nothing sacred anymore ??


The kids weren't impressed either.

I didn't know what you were talking about until I saw the picture.  I've had those before.  I recall them being pretty tasty.  So are they all whole wheat, baked with sunflower oil, or is that just some new healthy variety?

They keep NOTHING the same anymore.  They changed one of my favorite cookies - Lorna Doone's.  They don't taste the same either.

You should see/taste what they did recently to Cherry 7-Up.

I'm hoping that this is just some horrible new variety that will quickly die and I'll be able to find the original type soon.   (Think New Coke)
