OW! MY TOOTH!
« on: November 24, 2009, 12:15:00 AM »
Chewing a piece of dentist-recommended xylitol gum when.... - Ow. My tooth.  =(

Dang thing broke into pieces, and here it is only days before Thanksgiving.

On the upside, I have a dentist appointment in 10 or so hours to have it looked at. At this point, it'll be a crown at best and a full extraction at worst.

I'm hoping that the break isn't so far down as to need a root canal or an extraction...

Having had my bad filling, nerve-gone-ballistic, root canal action for the year, I hope you get relief soon and need only a crown.

Now we know the real reason that gum is dentist recommended. $$

What happened?  Somebody hide a piece of steel shot in the gum or something?   >:D

Aw, that sucks right before Thanksgiving.  But at least you have an appointment right away to get it looked at.  Most dentists are great at being able to analyze and fix the problem immediately.  If the tooth wasn't bothering you before, more than likely a crown will be the solution (cheaper than root canal).  They'll  probably prepare the tooth today, take impressions for your permanent crown, and put a temporary crown on that will hold you right through Thanksgiving and longer.  No worries  :-)

About 10pm last night, throbbing started. I guess the damage went deep enough, but when he looked and asked, it was root canal time. I'm now out another $1,700, which is money I didn't have to begin with!  =(

At least the pain stopped. Demerol is great stuff, too.

Eh... My feeling about medical issues, dental included, is that paying money out to live a bit longer and in a bit better shape is worth it, to me. It gives me a chance to repay kindness given to me by others.  =)

If you can find a dentist in Texas that's generous with the Demerol and gives bulk rates, I should be able to bump us up to a price break or two.   =(

What, exactly, ISN'T WRONG with you?

That sucks, man.  The worst I've had is kidney stones, but I hear tooth troubles are just as bad...

In the interest of not having any divine influence change things for the worse, I choose not to answer.

Tooth pain is some of the worst.  Hope they fix that right up.
