Business Trip to Vegas this weekend
« on: April 05, 2010, 04:19:47 PM »
I am getting sent to Vegas Thursday afternoon to do a small project Friday that will take about 4 hours.  My flight will not come back until Sunday. In effect I am getting free trip to Vegas with all but entertainment expenses covered.

What the hell should I do with my free time?  I'm not really a gambler.  I'm thinking of heading to one of the rental ranges in the area and playing with some full auto fun but that only covers a couple of hours.  Any acts I should try to get into?

I'm not a gambler, either.

You need to visit:

Bellagio and see both the inside and the fountains
Hoover Dam, if you can.
Venitian
Cesar's Palace
Maybe the Stratosphere
The Paris hotel with it's Eiffel Tower.
Most of the casinos have interesting themes, attractions, etc to see on the inside.

I spent 4 days in Vegas back in '07 and didn't gamble one cent. I did a hell of a lot of sightseeing. The best part is walking around and touring the casinos is free.

I wouldn't even bother with the range. Vegas isn't the only place where you can rent full auto and I've heard that most of the ranges are kinda pricey...

The FA ranges there are very pricey.

Go check out the eye candy at the Hard Rock Casino's pool.

Red Rock Canyon is a nice natural area.  Rent a motorcycle for a drive out there.

Go to the Bunny Ranch and buy a hat or t shirt.   >:D

Pawn shops.  Definitely the pawn shops.  I head from multiple sources that the shops in Vegas are the hands-down best in terms of sheer variety.

If Star Trek: the Experience has re-opened (scheduled to do so this year), I would definitely go to that.

Definitely see Penn & Teller at the Rio.  Spent the extra couple bucks and get good seats.  If you're staying on the side of the strip with the monorail, get a multiday pass and just sight see the different casinos.  Bellagio, Venetian and Cesar's are best.

You may not think it's such a good idea after you price the tickets.    ;)

Brad

$85 for front row, $75 for general seating.  Spend the extra $10.

I bought two front row tickets (one for myself, one for a lady) and believed it was well worth the price.  I'm at a loss to think of better money spent on entertainment in my entire life.  To each their own, of course.  They tossed in some free booklets if you get the good seats and after every show, both Penn and Teller hang around to autograph and chat with the fans.

Also, the trip is financed by a very rich guy who owns a bunch of companies and resorts who probably would not balk at a little entertainment expense in my expense report.

He was a billionaire a few years ago, I am unsure if he still is or not.  They are moving most of their Vegas back office operations to their resort here in Montana.  They have had a series of really low end IT companies in the last few years that made a hash of things in both places, I fixed MT for the most part last year and will finish it this winter when I can down them again.  Vegas is in a shambles right now.  I just need to go and inventory what they have and write a plan on how to integrate what is left in Vegas to the back end up here in MT.  4 hours onsite may be conservative since there will only be 5 or 6 staff left down there.

I guess I'm the only bad influence here. Come on it's Vegas, go gambling! Take a predetermined amount, find the lowest rent blackjack table to sit down at, if you're lucky you can find someone cute to teach you how to play. Get some free drinks, play all day. I've nearly sworn off of Blackjack in lieu of poker, but that actually takes skill and practice. Low rent Blackjack played semi-correctly is pretty cheap entertainment.

I second the motion of going to see Penn and Teller, though Penn is a bit of a dick sometimes. In a good way.

Actually, to me, the monorail is a big pile of FAIL. The stations are to the frickin' rear of the casinos, so you have to walk godawful distances to the monorail stations to board...

Put $5 on the White Sox to win the Series for me......

There's a hole-in-the-wall casino right on the strip just outside of Circus Circus that has $1 Blackjack.  I managed to stay at that table for 8 hours on $40.  Talked to quite a few interesting and some not so interesting people that came and played for a while.  It was kinda like APS, but in real life. ;/ =D :P

The monorail ain't so bad now that all the loose parts have fallen off.  What remains attached should stick through the next few weeks or so.  However, should the monorail stop and open its doors, look for the presence of something to stand on before exiting.  It's quite a drop to street level.

If T-shirt hell you must, get the snorting cocaine off a hooker's ass one. Walk down the strip, see what it gets you.
