I know of a few IT security groups (one is part of a Very Large Company) that run Macs because they aren't susceptible to the same virii that plague the PC platform while having more support for the standard apps most companies use.

the graphic designers i know use Macs too.

I think they're more like the Playskool of the PC market.  The have next to nothing in terms of market share, no serious business runs Mac computers for anything the requires heavy computing.

That’s just plain silly.

Survey: 8 in 10 businesses now using Macs
Apple has made significant inroads with corporate users as the percentage of businesses using Macs has doubled in the past two years
Nearly 80 percent of businesses have Macs in-house, nearly double the number that said they had users running Mac OS X two years ago, a research firm said Thursday.

Quote
IT professionals noted that the reliability of Apple's hardware was a factor in shifting to Macs. Almost eight out of 10 of the people surveyed rated Mac hardware reliability as either "excellent" or "very good."
"There's no doubt that user confidence in the reliability of both the Macintosh hardware and software products is having a tangible impact on corporate purchasing and deployment trends," DiDio wrote in a draft of a report based on the survey that she will soon release.

Now here we’re talking revenue share of desktops, not unit share:

Quote
US Retail Revenue Share

Windows PC  52%
Mac Desktop 48%
Windows Laptop 66%
Mac Laptop 34%

He emphasized: "While those are great numbers, that's probably not sustainable." Perhaps, but even a decline to 40 percent revenue share would put Apple head and torso above every single competitor selling Windows PCs

The busiest sections at the biggest law and technology trade show/conference are the Mac sessions.  A very large proportion of attendees, including me, had their Apple laptops with them.  The newest law practice management software tends to be web-based software-as-a-service and is therefore platform independent, but both of the companies exhibiting their products at the show had developed it on Macs.  Small- and medium-sized law firms are increasingly using Macs, and while Techshow attendees represent a small proportion of law firm owners, they do tend to be those who are successful enough to attend the show (with it's $800 admission fee [students are much cheaper, which is how I got in]) and those who are on the cutting edge of technology in the practice of law.

Just a view of Macs in the legal sector.

Well if you guys really don't want to take an open source multi-platform phone OS like Andorid seriously, we'll just see where things are in a year or two.

Really?  Is that what you've taken from all this?

Nobody is dismissing the Droid, far from it.  I can't speak for everyone else, but the reason I didn't get a Droid (and I wanted one over the iProduct) was that it wasn't available to me without an expensive data plan I didn't want.  I would have seriously considered a Droid PDA (DroidTouch perhaps), but I don't know of any.

Open Source zealots are as bad as Mac zealots.

Well for one, "the Droid" is just one of over a dozen phones that run the Android OS.  Two, a droid PDA is already in the works, more than one in fact.  That's the beauty of the OS being totally apart from the hardware.  Dell, HP, HTC, et can all make Android PDAs if they want, and they will.  Apple will always be just Apple.  Their OS, their hardware, their rules, and their way.  With Android, a company like Creative or Archos can make an a whole variety of Andorid MP3 players, while Dell and HP make some Android PDAs or netbooks, and HTC or Motorola can make Android phones.  And they all run off the same system and have access to the same apps, same support, and same customization.  I'm not saying that Apple doesn't have some good ideas.  But they never say to themselves "Now what can someone else out there do to make our idea even better?"

Two words: Data. Plan.  I did not want a monthly plan on top of the cost of the device.  Period.  That isn't negotiable.

I needed something today.  "In the works" can be a month or a year.

Nobody was disputing any of that  Nobody said the Android wasn't a fantastic system, but it is a new system and not available in the platform *I* want at this point in time.  Not yet being available doesn't equate to dismissing it entirely.  Believe me, I spent quite a bit on the phone with VZ reps trying to get an Android without a data plan.  I've had two smartphones over the past 5 years without, but they changed their rules.  Had I been successful, we would be talking about my new Android. :)

I suggest you ratchet the zealotry back a bit.

Somehow this seems appropriate...

And for people (like me) who make money with all three systems:

Perhaps because Android is a handheld OS and the Chrome OS doesn't exist yet?
