Maverick
« on: March 01, 2010, 10:58:31 AM »
Any of you ever watch it? I watched the reruns as a kid in the 70's, but just recently saw it available on Netflix Instant and have been checking it out again. It's been so long that it's just like watching new episodes, and I'd forgotten how good the show was.

Kind of a crackup too that a TV show that was on during "family hour" in 1957 is now rated TV-14.

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

I've seen the movie, but not the show. James Garner was in that, right?

James Garner and Jack Kelly in the original series. There was a remake in the 80's I think that was kinda lame.

Yeah  I think so. I like the earlier seasons better (pre Roger Moore as the English cousin), but overall a good show.

I think Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (from "The FBI") appeared in the original series as another brother . . . and I vaguely remember an episode with yet a fourth Maverick brother, but don't remember who played him. And of course Roger Moore was a Maverick cousin.

I thought the remake series ("Bret Maverick" also starring James Garner) was decent, especially the episode in which it was revealed that Maverick carried about a dozen or so "hideout" guns . . .  =D    IIRC, this show had respectable ratings, but someone at the network didn't like it and cancelled it. (Around the same time, they kept "Love Sidney" on the air longer, which possibly said something about who was running the network.)

"Young Maverick" with some nobody in the title role was disappointingly lame and got promptly cancelled.

I remember the movie being seventeen kinds of awesome, but have no idea what most of you are talking about...  ???

Can't remember the title, but there was an episode in which Clint Eastwood guest starred as a bad guy out to kill Maverick.  It's an extra on the Unforgiven DVD, and definitely worth watching.

Clint is in the tail end of season 2. I'm actually two episodes away from it right now.
