Who is the guy that was on the cover...

Of "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young?"  I know he was of South African/Rhodesian extraction but came to America and went to Vietnam.  He died in one of the WTC towers on 9/11.  I cannot for the life of me, remember his name, though.  Bob something or other...I think.

I remember him as well.  Can't think of his name, but in his life, he carved out an indelible patch, as I recall.

Uncorroborated but seems authoritative:
the soldier pictured on the front cover is Rick Rescorla, who served at Ia Drang as a lieutenant. He had served in the British Army before coming to America, and he would stay in America after the war. Rick was working at the World Trade Center on 9/11, and he died there helping people escape from the disaster.

Thanks Fig, he's the guy.  I was wrong about him being from SA/Rhodesia but he was there at one point.  I was in the ballpark.

I'm taking a class on 9/11 this semester and our first assignment is to go through the list of victims and write a tribute of some sort.  Needless to say, mine's on Rick Rescorla.
