name brand "spy" cam
« on: March 17, 2010, 02:29:18 PM »
i've been thinking of buying a digital video recorder for a while, but suddenly have the need for something with motion activated recording.  one of my neighbors dogs is using my yard for a toilet, and the only neighbor with dogs big enough for these landmines isn't fessing up. i see them constantly marking the boundery line, and don't have an issue with the dogs (very friendly), i just hate my kids stepping in the crap.

here is one i came across while doing an ebay search, but i'm always hesitant to buy a camera without name brand product support and optics. i do like the features, ie night mode, motion sensing, still picture capable. water resistant would be nice for the boat.  any other necessary features? preferred media? has anyone seen something like this put out by reputable company, or am i just being a snob? maybe i should buy this cheapy for "dogwatch", and see how it works for family videos?

btw, how does one go about renaming a link like this?

Most electronics that are "off-brand" only lack two things that "name brand" electronics have--advertising, and quality control.

You might get something that sucks.  Then again, it might work better and longer than a SonyCanonOlympus.  No real way to tell.

the camera looks like a 60 dollar made in china clone with crappy quality

it should be fine for your purpose

;)

but this might also work:

One idea would be to get one of the game cameras but those are not really "hidden" or "spy".  They do work well or at least mine does.

i had the idea of a game cam, but when i stumbled upon this other one i thought that if there were a good quality one like this, that it might serve more than one purpose.
