Gone in 28 seconds: Rapid-fire sniper takes out five Taliban soldiers from more than a mile away to save British patrol
By Ian Drury
Last updated at 10:01 AM on 7th May 2010

A British sniper shot dead five Taliban gunmen in just 28 seconds to save the lives of comrades walking into an ambush.

The marksman felled the rebels from more than a mile away as they prepared to attack troops on foot patrol in Afghanistan.
The corporal  -  whose identity cannot be revealed for security reasons  -  has killed a record 37 enemy fighters during a four-month tour of duty.

I'll note that it's the British-built L115A3 Long Range Rifle in .338 Lapua that he used, much like the record long distance sniper.

I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

nice work  his money is no good in the bar
It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

Except in an anti-material role, where it will always be superior, I think we'll see the .50 BMG falling out of favor as the end-all be-all long range sniping round as time goes on.

There's at least ample anecdotal evidence that the .338's and .400's often show even better long range characteristics.
I promise not to duck.

Sheesh.

I'm amazed the gun can keep sub MOA consistency at 1500+ meters, for 5 shots in 30 seconds.

1 MOA at that distance being about 17+ inches.

Amazing.  Good on him.  I hope he gets lots of pints bought for him, back home.

Slight adjustment to thread trajectory

The Canadian sniper record of 2002 has been replaced with a Brit and 3 ea 1-1/2 mile shots dropping 2 bad guys and destroying a machine gun.

Three consecutive hits at 1-1/2 miles.  Good shootin'.

Sorry, should have been more explicit in my reference in the first post.

.375-50? The round is so over-bore that a barrel's life expectancy is only around 800-1000 rounds, but what it pulls off is bloody awesome.

Add Barrett's .416 to that list. That has some impressive ballistics, too.
