Looking for free/cheap MPEG4 editing software

I'm looking for a Windows-based application that will take a .mp4 video file as input and create an edited .mp4 as output.  Basically, the only things it needs to do are:

- trim the file (I set the start and stop points)
- keep the video and audio in sync

Any suggestions as to what I should get?  Thanks.
