Damn... Mom's hip again.
« on: December 24, 2005, 01:59:44 PM »
Some of you may remember, my mom had hip replacement surgery a couple years ago, twice.  She had some infection in the first one and they had to do it again.

Well, she has been having trouble lately so she went to the doctor this week.  Seems the bone didn't fill in as it should have and they scheduled her for surgery first week of February.

Damn, she's depressed and scared, she's 76 years old and in otherwise good health.

Some good thoughts and prayers if you're so inclined would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Larry

PS.  The last time, cards and thoughts from THR members really helped her through.

Larry,

When she goes into the hospital, post her hospital address here.  We'll inundate her with good wishes.

Will do.  She will be at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Last time, Steve (sm), sent her a small gift and still today, if I mention "You know, Steve, from Arkansas"  she says "Oh yeah, he's so sweet". Smiley

Chris (P95) too.  "I remember him, he sent me a card".

Prayers and best wishes (and Merry Christmas while we're at it!) At 76, in otherwise good health, should be a piece of cake! But prayers just the same!

Larry, I'll be praying.  If your mom complains of a cold draft and a strange bathroom odor, you'll know my prayers are getting through! Cheesy

Oh Larry - that is not good to hear!

Know what - I still have a sweet card she wrote me Feb 2004, and so I still have an address for her at home.  Keep me in the loop will ya - sure as heck I will send her a card again.  She said I was the furthest away she;d heard from!!  Come to think of it too - still have a real nice pic of her.

Give her my best for now eh.

I am sure the doctors know best BUT are they sure the solution is worth the risk?  Regardless,  you and she have my hopes and prayers.  My mother had a hip and two knee replacements.  My feelings (worthless?) are that if she is active, go for it.  But if she's not, why not stick to medication and a more relaxed lifestyle?

good luck

Chris, thank you, I will let you know how things are going.  Yes, mom remembers you very well also.

Surgery is scheduled for February 8th.

Telewinz, active is not the word for it.  Mom was bustling around yesterday (with her cane) making sure the Christmas dinner was being prepared and served the way she approved of.  Her mom, my grandma, passed away in 2, at the age of 94, and was active up until about the age of 88.

The reason mom had the surgery two years ago was because she knew the hip was going, and as she told my dad; "I don't want to be in a wheelchair when I'm 80".

Here's hoping this one works well.

Just be sure to give us all the proper address at the proper time.  I'll be in Florida till Feb 12, so send me an e mail so I'll have her home address.

Larry,
As per our emails...

Mrs. Ashcraft is a hoot!

Never met the lady in person mind you, but I either have her wrapped around my little finger, she thinks I hung the moon , or most likely both.  *wink*

So of course I will be keeping tabs on the Ashcraft family...I have quite a few other families that we keep tabs on each other.

Larry give Mom my best and again inform her - NO , I am not behavin' .  Would not want to disappoint the lady, she  expects no less of me anyway.

I mean this lady would take all us Forum folks in, feed us until we could eat another bite, send us out to the woods... and if we felled game...make one hell of a meal from the fare.

Regards,

Steve

God bless your mom, Larry.  Please be an advocate for her while she's in the hospital and make sure both you and her fully understand the surgery and its risks and expectations.

UPDATE:

Mom's hip surgery was delayed until Feb 22 because of some unseen complications.  They now have to do the full surgery over because the upper "cup" is no longer being made.

She is in a lot of pain and may be in a wheelchair by the time she goes in for surgery.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank You,

Larry

Larry,

Check your email please.

Information that *might* be of help.

Hey, I could be right for once....stranger things have been known to happen...lol

Oh..package en-route, maybe Mom will share...I did warn her about the "boys". *snicker*

Rule #....I forget.

Spoil the moms of best friends. Keeps you out of trouble. I mean you may be guilty too, just mom looks the other way if you spoil them...now if Larry gets into trouble, hey his mom, her son, his problem.

If Sandy starts chasing me with a cast iron skillet - I got a sure fire place to take refuge - behind Larry's Mom.
[I got this figured out - smart huh?]

I will keep your mom in mind along with the whole family Larry...
