I've listened to Gillian Welch and others for quite a while, but recently made a few discoveries.
Firstly - The Felice Brothers (
Frankie's Gun,
Greatest Show on Earth) Yes he sounds like Dylan, which youtube commenters don't seem to be able to get over. The self-titled album is great.
The Low Anthem (
To Ohio) probably a bit more of an acquired taste. Saw them in Birmingham a couple of weeks back. Best concert I've ever been to, all the band members play pretty much all the instruments. Some odd instruments in there too, including the use of two mobile phones on speaker phone calling each other.
The Avett Brothers (
Paranoia in B flat major) "The I and Love and You" is a good album
British band Mumford and Sons (
Little Lion Man nsfw lyrics) - not the finished article and there are a few bad songs on the album, but have hopes for them. They're big here at the moment.
King Wilkie (
Goodbye Rose) Apparently once hailed as the next big thing in bluegrass, they moved away from that quite a bit.
Deer Tick (
Ashamed)
Blitzen Trapper (
Black River Killer)
Midlake (
Fortune)
