Music thread - alt. country/americana

I've listened to Gillian Welch and others for quite a while, but recently made a few discoveries.

Firstly - The Felice Brothers (Frankie's Gun, Greatest Show on Earth) Yes he sounds like Dylan, which youtube commenters don't seem to be able to get over. The self-titled album is great.

The Low Anthem (To Ohio) probably a bit more of an acquired taste. Saw them in Birmingham a couple of weeks back. Best concert I've ever been to, all the band members play pretty much all the instruments. Some odd instruments in there too, including the use of two mobile phones on speaker phone calling each other.

The Avett Brothers (Paranoia in B flat major) "The I and Love and You" is a good album

British band Mumford and Sons (Little Lion Man nsfw lyrics) - not the finished article and there are a few bad songs on the album, but have hopes for them. They're big here at the moment.

King Wilkie (Goodbye Rose) Apparently once hailed as the next big thing in bluegrass, they moved away from that quite a bit.

Deer Tick (Ashamed)

Blitzen Trapper (Black River Killer)

Midlake (Fortune)
I do not like, when with me play, and I think that you also

Hmm. I'm an Americana aficionado, and the only names I recognize are Gillian Welch (amazing) and the Avett Brothers. Thanks for the steer to new earfood.

Are you familiar with Neko Case? If not, her voice ranges from beautiful to spectral.

"Frankie's Gun" sounds a bit like "Water in the Fuel" by Fred Eaglesmith.

Dug up because I discovered 'The Tallest Man on Earth' this week. His album 'Wild Hunt' is very good. Mostly him and his guitar (and he's good with it). For a Swedish chap he certainly seems to have a handle on all the best folk/country singer-songerwriter traditions. His voice is probably an acquired taste, but I listen to Dylan, Cohen, Oberst and Bill Callahan.

The Tallest Man on Earth - Wild Hunt
Tallest Man on Earth - A Lion's Heart
Tallest Man on Earth - Troubles Will Be Gone
