Damn good point.  However, I think that the level of protective paranoia revolving around the President utterly removes him from any link to the people.  Makes it very easy to isolate oneself from the woes of the masses.

Ok, honest question here. What would you rather see? Obama strolling through the ghetto with one bodyguard?

Remember how the GCA was passed: over reaction to assassinations. I'm happy to do anything and everything to keep The One healthy so they can't martyr him and pass burdensome new laws in memoriam.

True, that point, but I've been on the inside of a Presidential Movement (no, not that kind of Movement), and it saddens me how much the President is removed from the people.  Really, when's the last time any President had much face time with the people that wasn't staged or planted? What, maybe Bill and his penchant for dropping into MickeyDees for a quarter pounder?  Yeah, like the SS didn't have that scoped out in advance.  Don't speak to him, don't come up to him...etc...

I agree it'd be nice to have unscripted access, but I just don't know how to do it on a practical level.

You mean the driver's window doesn't open a little so he can pay tolls??

Well, for one it's the presidential limo.  The very definition of a GOV.  If the president is in it it's in a convoy, and if it has to take a toll road everything is pre-arranged so they just fly by any toll stations.  If it's just the driver practicing or taking it for maintenance or whatever, he likely flies through the transponder lanes, whether he has a transponder or not, whether it works through the armor or not.  The agency sends a bill to 1600 Pennsylvania, where it is either paid as a 'security expense' or ignored.  Or they point out some GOV excemption to the tolls.

3" is also an impractical height for handing out a toll, you'd barely be able to get your fingers through it.  Talking through - that's what a PA system would be for.  The ability to open the window would more likely be a full open in case the vehicle ends up on it's side - given the weight of the doors you're unlikely to be able to open them up, though I'm sure they have a solution to that.

Yeah, there's a lot of misinformation in there.
