Chinese Traffic Jam

http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2010/08/23/china-traffic-jam.html

If you think your daily commute is really bad, check this out.  Traffic Jam is 62 miles long and started August 14. Reason given: "insufficient traffic capacity … caused by maintenance construction."  There is actually roadside vendors selling food.  One guy reports that he has spent 3 days and 2 nights in the traffic jam.

And just imagine when more Chinese get cars.  =D

3 days in a car?

I wonder what happens if some guy snaps, gets out of his car, and walks away.

He tries to go home, buys a soda, beats up some gangsters, finds a bag of guns, shoots up a burger joint, blows up some road work, and eventually gets shot by a cop who is about to retire.  =D
Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Sounds like it would make a good movie.

Oddly, from what I've gathered, this isn't what people are making it out to be - it's not been a solid jam since that day, simply constant jam; people aren't completely stuck, just massively slowed. Most of the traffic, from reports OTHER than the linked article, is the usual food transport and other semi-trucks, not passenger vehicles. That alone makes all the leftists calling for more people to use mass transit hilarious. :D

While in Athens I saw some traffic jams where folks just left their cars and went to the cafe.  My mind boggles at the society where 'Meh, I'll just get it from the impound lot later' is not a wild aberration when dealing with traffic.

This is why the traffic is so bad!

Well, we have house across the road out here again...  ;/

My favorite traffic jam of all time used to happen every year the day before WI gun deer season started. There was a single road that went from Green Bay to Upper Michigan in a straight north direction and there was 1 stoplight in a very small burg about 1/2 in between. I would go up to my cabin in the UP on the thursday night before opening weekend, turn on the news friday night, and without fail see reporters showing the epic traffic jam that is backed up to a slow crawl for 20 miles due to that freaking stop light.  >:D

This is why the traffic is so bad!

When things get that bad, it is actually a prudent and helpful way of dealing with the situation.

Rather than throngs of cars spewing exhaust for hours on end (not that there is anything wrong with that) and arguing over which car gets to scrape the other cars' bumpers getting to be first in line to wait for an opening, you provide employment for the tow truck operators while leaving the downtown parking spots unmolested by the predatory ones, and you lessen the chances of a stroke by sitting on the sidewalk watching the show.  Later, a short walk to the next street over gets you a sedate and soothing cab ride home - all due to the mass of cars still stuck in the logjam.

And the best part of all?  A built-in excuse to call the boss and say that as much as you would really rather be in the office/at the jobsite you just can't get there.  And if he checks the news helicopter film he can see your car stuck there.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.
