I got pulled over tonight.
« on: September 24, 2010, 03:25:19 AM »
I was in my work truck so no CCW.

I work nights now. Been working a late shift since mid May.
Tonight I pulled out of my office lot in my company van with company logos all over it and pull onto the  main street of of the small town I live in.

Headlights on, used my signal, wasn't speeding.

I get half a block down the road and the lights come on.
I pull over to the side, figured he was after someone else and I wanted out of his way.
Not the case.
I shut down, hit the hazard lights and roll down the window.

Over the PA I hear "Driver, step out of the vehicle!"

I'm thinking "WTF is this all about?" as I step out to a blinding spot light in my face with my hands up.

Well the carnival is in town (oh joy) and the reserve cop had never seen a phone truck pull out that late at night and figured one of the carneys had stolen my van.

Of course as soon as he saw me it was over and he explained why he stopped me. By then another reserve officer I know had pulled up Iheard him ask the first cop "What did he do?"
We had a good chuckle and I was on my way.
What a way to start the night.

Well, let's face it, the Reserve Officer was probably called on duty because the carnival was in town:  "We need some extra help from you Reserve Officers because we expect a higher number of incidents.  So keep your eyes open."

So he was probably "primed" for such a thing and didn't expect to see a phone truck rolling that late.  And no doubt your truck has a lot of copper, tools, communications equipment, etc in it.

So, yeah, I could see him pulling you over.  Sorta.

Forgiveable overzealouness, perhaps, but it beats underzealouness in this case.

Too bad about your not being able to carry your personal self-defense firearm on duty.  Sux.

Was the smell of cabbage wafting out of your truck?

Naw, I had burritos for lunch o it sure wasn't cabbage he might have been smelling.

I don't have a problem with the cop checking things out, just kind of a WTF moment.

Having been pulled over, can you still legitimately claim to be a "RoadKing"?

I believe there was a long discussion about police officers pulling people over and what constitutes probably cause or evidence that would allow the officer to search your vehicle or something like that.  One guy mentioned that coffee cans in the car might mean you were into drugs or something.

Well, yesterday at my small town Jamboree festivities I did spend 5 minutes in cuffs in the Jamboree lockup (fundraiser, have someone "arrested" and locked up for 5 minutes for $5) while armed.
