Missouri
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:10:32 AM »
We made it to the St. Louis area.

Kansas is where wind comes from and the people must be poor there, it only cost me $2.50 to get out of there on I-70.

So far, we really like Missouri.  Obviously, only saw the parts right off I-70 but we like it.  My wife, who cries when we leave CO said "I think we could live here."  It's not an option right now but it's something we'll be keeping on file.

My daughter has already caught a frog, she's 2.  She said "Imma eat it for brea'fast".  I convinced her to leave it outside.

My wife and I drove through MO last year in October, and it was just beautiful.  We stayed toward the southwest part of the state, where it's more rolling-hills-and-forest and less flat-and-bare.  Gorgeous old houses, lots of nice little towns, tons of back-roads to drive, and get this - drivers you meet on said back-roads wave to an unfamiliar car.

Totally a place I could get used to.

Anyway, we escaped Colorado 13 years ago - followed the trail north to Montana.  Got a house and 40 acres in the "Pineywood Hills."  Not high mountains but more like the hills of Missouri except much drier.

Southern MO or Northern AR is on my list as a potential place to move when I finish my degree. Cheap living and lots of nice folks.

My parents were born and raised in the Jonesboro area of North Arkansas and moved to Seattle after WWII.  I apparently have relatives all throughout North Arkansas and South Missouri.  Supposed to be some beautiful terrain out there.

It is, mix of pine and hardwoods, lots of exposed bedrock.

My folks have friends they occasionally visit in N Arkansas. I forget exactly where, but they said it's really beautiful and their friends have a really nice house on a lake with their own boat ramp that (at least compared to CA prices) was dirt cheap.

My dad said everybody is really friendly and polite, waving and saying hello, with all kids saying "sir" and ma'am", and that 90% of all conversations involve fishing or hunting. :)

Just be careful when you get to the eastern edge of the state.  You'll fall off.

I live in the St. Louis area, right by the airport.  Let me know if I can help you with anything.

Misery isn't bad if you can stay away from the liberal enclaves of Kansas City, St. Louis and Columbia.

I was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas so I know about Kansas City.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

We're just visiting the wifes sister.  I fly out on Sunday morning, headed east.  I don't think I'm going to have time to get into trouble...PLUS, the sis in law might be able to kick my butt if I do.
