"Todd, get the little thing out of your pocket"  seemed to work better than "Is that a dog in there?  I'll box him."

There's no need to warn Mike that he's going to be tased - especially when you can say "Isn't it amazing how quick you can recover" afterwards.  :police:   :-*

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

3 cops. They're not beating you. Being damn nice, actually.  No good reason to put up a fight.

At least the guy realized he was being a jackass. Better than the, "Don't taze me bro!" broheim.

I feel bad for Todd. He's gonna have to hear "get the little thing outa your pocket" for the next year.

For the most part, we live or die by the choices we make.  Some choices are benign.  Others are not.  We are free to make those choices.

The video provides insight into making wrong choices.  The guy tried to elude police.  Bad choice.  The guy chose to ignore some calm instructions given by those who's instructions at that juncture needed to be heeded.  Bad choice.  The guy was given multiple opportunities to reverse his poor choice and was advised more than once that his liberty had been taken from him and that he needed to comply.  He chose not to comply.  Bad choice.

The police then had two choices.  Make him submit by pummeling him into compliance or to bring compliance using a tool that provided the least opportunity for harm to several people.  The latter was the best choice.  The video, to me, was a testament to fine professional police procedure and provided the desired outcome with the least amount of violence.  Good choice.

Exactly.  I know the video is a few years old, but it really shows that there are cops out there who try to be polite, even when they're wresting with someone, and who view physical force as a last resort.  A lot of cops are like this.  In fact, I would say nearly all of them.  It's just that the media is not generally scrambling to make a news story about cops who just do their jobs and go home.  So we really only hear about the bad (news making) kind.

No complaints about using the taser as a "submission tool"?

No complaints about using the taser as a "submission tool"?

But that's exactly what it's supposed to be!  The problem is when it is used when submission to a lawful arrest is a foregone conclusion.  Ex:  smart mouth 70 year old woman who is combative and has commited a crime, 10 year old snotty kid the teacher can't control, 3 cops and an unrully miscreant/felon.  As a LEO, I'd be embarrased to have my peers know I couldn't handle an arthritic old lady or a kid, or three of us couldn't cuff and stuff a drug/alcohol addled jibroney.

In my day, a nightstick was the submission tool.  Given the choice, in the proper circumstance, to take a step back and zap?  No contest.  Blood on the uniform shirt has to be drycleaned.
