Noisy office
« on: November 03, 2010, 05:30:01 PM »
I recently moved offices to a brand new location in town and the office noise is driving me nuts.  I can now clearly hear and understand every single conversation in the office including everything said by the secretary with an annoying voice (she is almost on par with the officespace gal).  My new office mate is a loud talker with an extra deep voice, a coughing problem, and has an extra clicky keyboard.

any suggestions?  I'm finding it exceptionally difficult to concentrate.  I am going to talk to management this afternoon but do not have high expectations out of that.

You will tune a lot of it out after awhile.

Otherwise, I suggest a Think Geek Annoy-A-Tron, or ten... secreted about the office. They'll all be quiet trying to find them.

noise-cancelling headphones
For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

Gently caress your red Swingline stapler.  It will make you feel better, and hopefully scare the hell out of them...

click here, and think full size and closed, or IEMs. =)

if you go IEM, remember not to pull them quickly/straight out. rupture the ear drums they can. :O

if that's over budget, or don't like music.
try these, or these. the first ones are easier to use, the latter tend to sink to far into the ear canal. i haven't had to have one removed professionally, yet. but they are more comfortable. then walmart has the purple kind, haven't tried them. but the package claims there softer.

He should whisper softly to it while he's caressing. That should quiet everybody down.  ;)

You should try figuring out the programming for an oddball thermostat while the Indian from India lady, who thinks she's funny, is looking over your shoulder and making wise ass comments in your ear because it's giving you a hard time. I ended up getting mad and chasing her away. She still likes me for some reason.

Is that allowed in your office?  I thought the whole purpose of the modern office was to discourage concentration or useful thought.

Beans, lots of beans, and cabbage.

You can get one sold for office use; the only difference, though, is the sticker on the top says Sound Screen instead of Sleep Mate. Amazon doesn't have the SoundScreen stickered one, though it's available elsewhere on the interwebs. That one here: http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-980A-Sound-Screen-Conditioner/dp/B000MPH0PG

I thought the word was corporate poobah.

You'll tune it out after awhile, as mentioned.  Just think of the days when nobody had cubicles at all, and it was just desk-to-desk dusk till dawn.  Those folks survived, and some even got promoted.  When I really have to bend the brain, I stick a CD in the computer and listen to it.  Nice thing about classical music is there are rarely any distracting lyrics.

I always figure if it's worth complaining about, somebody else will complain first.

Or, you can creat more distractions on your own, until someone complains about you, and a new rule is made about holding down the noise and distractions for everybody.

There you go, get one of those Bose wave cd players and play Sousa marches on volume #11. Tell them you need to do that to drown out the office noise and concentrate on your work.

No, mrs 280 is a mere muckety muck, nowhere near the poobah level, yet.

I laugh but I doubt you'll ever meet a more determined woman.  ;)
