British security breach for the Royals

The British Royal security people must be crapping a brick right about now.  I saw video of this last night, and there was very little keeping the Royals from being killed, if the crowd so wanted.  Clearly they do not follow the US Secret Service moving bubble approach.

And I love the PM's remark that this level of violence is "unacceptable."

Too strong a word.  I would have used the more polite term "undesirable."

So if Prince Charles wanted to start carrying a Walther PPK in a patent leather shoulder holster, I wonder if he can?  I wonder if the driver of the Royal limo is armed and if there is another security person riding in the front seat.  Or if the crowd had breached the limo, was the safety of the Royals solely up to their ability to win over the crowd?  I read in other articles that the security team following behind was stopped and their car trashed some distance back from the limo.
