63 year old Democrat, one of the people shot last week by Jared Laughner, goes to a Republican/Tea Party rally and when the conservative base is decrying the calls for increased gun control measures, this guy is booing.  He even takes a pic of the local Tea Party spokesman with his cell phone then shouts "You're Dead!" to him.

I hope the Tea Party guy presses charges against him.

We have plenty of laws on the books.  If we don't use them against the loonies, we will end up allowing the loonies to act as a voting bloc to strip rights away from us non-loonies.

Judging by the comments here: http://gawker.com/5734933/tucson-shooting-victim-arrested-for-threatening-tea-partier, the libs think "you're dead" is not remotely a threat; and that if this guy was arrested, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, etc., should all be arrested, too.

Wasn't a GOP/Tea Party rally.  It was a taping of a "town hall" by ABC reporter Christiane Amanpour (or how ever she spells it - she's a uber-lefty reporter that made her name with CNN in the 90's).  The founder the "Tucson Tea Party" was one of the group of people invited to appear.  He made some noise about not ramping up political crap over this when the dead hadn't even been buried.  That's when the dude got up, took his picture and (yelled or muttered depending on the source) said "You're dead!"

He's being held on a 72 hour mental eval hold.  From what I've read he sounds like a slightly less crazy version of Laughner.  Just as paranoid, and just as volatile, but probably not schizophrenic (sp??). 

As the cops were leading him away he shouted at the people that were still there for the taping that they were "whores".  Not sure in what manner they were supposed to be whores though.

Using martial metaphors to describe a political struggle: DEATH THREATS AND INCITING VIOLENCE!!!!

Taking someone's pitcure and saying "You're dead": Normal everyday disagreement.

Of course, the difference is the wrong type of people did the former and the right kind of people did the latter.

Listening to Hannity last Friday he had a liberal who sounded rational and interested in polite discourse. Then when Hannity asked him about the left's rhetoric he said: "Yeah, but that was different."

I think this people are incapable of viewing anything honestly outside their political world-view.

Dude almost got killed about a week ago. I think its a little crass to label him looney lefty already. Was he dumb as a rock to threaten to kill someone? Heck Yea, but the guy may be going through some emotional trauma and the trip to the mental hospital may do him good. The anti's are crass in using the people killed for political gain we don't need to stoop to their level and berate a guy who's clearly in need of help.

You don't see the raw hypocrisy in:

1. Crazy guy kills people
2. Another crazy guy shows up at a political event and threatens to kill people for not wanting gun control
3. Therefore, because crazy guy #2 is a democrat, we must have compassion for him because he wants gun control?

No... crazy is as crazy does.

Nothing wrong with calling crazy "crazy."  Or "looney."

He's in the rubber room building now.  Where he belongs.  Before he killed people.

For all we know, it's the crazies/loonies that do the copycat killings that always follow the original mass shootings.  This guy could be a copycat in the waiting.

I'm not trying to excuse him and I agree he needs to be checked out. I'm just saying the guy was almost killed a week ago I'd cut him a little slack and resort to name calling. And seriously because he's a democrat you think I'd give him a pass? Come on.

Well everyday I'm given more reasons to be disappointed about the democrats   republicans everybody today shouldn't be any different.
I'd agree he was shaken up and definitely over-reacting but I wouldn't say he did nothing wrong. He did something monumentally stupid but was yelling "You're Dead" an actual threat? Well it's made worse by the fact that he took the guys picture, so you won't see my belly aching about him getting arrested but its a gray area, just look at the other thread AZ posted about the blogger that typed "1 down, 534 to go.".  http://www.armedpolitesociety.com/index.php?topic=27870.0

That sentence makes it a little worse; is he saying it is acceptable to shoot politicians and their staff as long as you don't shoot anyone else? No one really knows whats going on in that guys head. It could be a frustrated blogger blowing off some steam and expressing himself or it could be a warning sign that is so common with these spree shooters (Not actually saying he may be one just looking at it from a LEO's perspective). In both cases I think its a bit earlier to either rush to the bloggers defense or condemn a guy who was almost killed. Basically its complicated.

I strongly suspect selective reporting on that one.

The nooz I've seen does not provide a full quote of the blog's contents.  Merely screen "zooms" of key sentences separated by several more sentences or paragraphs, and all screen captures are too blurry to read the actual blog.

It's kind of like:

The guy in Mass. was a moron. However, making what are supposed to be funny statements about people you are not directly interacting with and have no contact with is not a threat. It's stupid but not a threat.

The guy in Tucson was threatening someone. He had access to the individual, took their picture and then said "You're dead." That's both stupid and a direct threat.

It's not gray areas, it's pretty clear in both cases.
