Oh! Oh! Oh! That reminds me...
« on: January 18, 2011, 10:17:36 PM »
The bit about the mad scientist with his "arsonal of super powerful guns" reminded me of a convo with my boss the other day about the glock used by the AZ shooter. She saw a news bit on tv about the people that stopped him and how they did it and why they succeded. Basically a group of 'gun experts' said that the shooter messed up while reloading because of a complicated mechinism that makes it difficult to reload unless you know exactly what you are doing. Louise doesn't know anything about guns, and seems to think i'm some dumb redneck with some cheap POS guns and won't listin to me. Maybe I am, cause I don't what these experts are talking about.

Do you guys know what they were talking about? Or better yet, see the tv program?

I dunno, a glock is so complicated I can slidelock reload in under 1.5 sec shot to shot. Really tricky.  ;/

That's what I tried to tell her! Maybe he didn't hit the mag release or... Do they even make Glocks with the European mag catch?

No.

And on most Glocks, you can even slam home the mag hard enough to trip/jar the slide lock off without a separate finger or hand motion either.

I'm guessing they just saw slide-lock and swarmed him, and then, yes, it's something that's too complicated to do while people are wrestling with you.
I promise not to duck.

Nope. And they don't do anything weird like paddle releases or the like that other European manufacturers often favor.

Sounds like they got the group of "experts" down at the local gunstore that believe that "those newfangled plastic pistols ain't worth 'nuthin", that women are too stupid to operate semis, that the Taurus Judge is the finest in defensive technology, and that racking a shotgun is a force unto itself...

33 round mags don't slide out of pockets that easily.

If he had web gear, magpuls and practice he might have kept on firing

Does anyone know if his mag was a drop free?

I'm thinking the reload problem came from the length and weight of the mag. If he had a bunch of factory mags it might have been worse.

Yeah, I figured. I thought she was talking about a malfunction (i thought maybe shooter mistook a jam for slide lock and tried to reload) but she swore up and down that the "experts said.."  ;/ Maybe it was a mag issue. She wouldn't know.

I'm getting pretty sick of her attitude, though. She was talking one day, to my face, about getting shooting lessons from a local nra cert. guy, even though I offered to teach her and her daughter myself and told her the guy in question is reputed to be a hack.

33s fall clear quite nicely. I started with Glocks, pretty much do it with all autos now, when you drop the mag you're going to rotate the butt of the gun in towards your centerline a bit to facilitate the insert. Just turn that rotation into a snap and the old mag gets launched out even mo' betta. Biggest liability with slidelock is that empty mags don't clear the well as fast as partially loaded ones. As a lefty I lay the knuckle of my trigger finger on the mag release, auto trips it when you seat the new mag. Return to trigger whacking.

Yea, the Colonel hit him over the head with a folding chair as he walked by and the woman grabbed his charged mag as he was trying to reload. I love "experts". Kudos to both, the Colonel had already been grazed and still wacked the guiy with a chair. I remember the news geek talking to him trying to turn it into, "Cause you're a VN vet right?". The colonel says, "No, I was never in VN."

Sidenote, When he said, "I was never in VN." I immediately thought of Richard Blumenthal.

Ohhh, another sidenote. Lieberman is retiring. The two most likely candidates for his seat? Linda McMahon and Susan Bysiewicz.   :O  [barf]

I can spell her name because her dad was my insuance agent for years. That don't mean I have any special love for her. Word is around the capitol building she's known as "Susan Bitchy-witch".  ;)

the only bright side, McMahon will probably succeed at buying her way in this time but even still...  [barf]

I wouldn't mind some WWF WWE-style smackdowns in the Senate.  Might bring some respectability to the place.

At the least, more entertaining...

At the least, more entertaining valuable...

FTFY. A brawl (preventing any other action) would increase congress's value from overwhelmingly negative to slightly negative. BIG plus.

I'd even be willing to pay to repair the place every day so there are fresh chairs and tables for use.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Well, we tune in to see Chyna vs. Sable. McMahon vs. Pelosi? In the words of my favorite Kazakh newsman, not so much.  [barf] [barf]
