"Monster snowstorms still spell global warming"

http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/01/27/kaku.snowstorms.global.warming/index.html

I'm in my seventh decade. When I was a kid, we had snow like this almost every year. Back then, we called it "Winter." Now, suddenly, snow is caused by ... global warming.

In (I think) 1979, there was a monster blizzard that closed the state of Connecticut for three or four days. Cars were simply abandoned on the Interstates because they couldn't even make it to an exit. They brought in a National Guard (or Army Reserve) Combat Engineer battalion from Texas with heavy equipment to help Connecticut dig out.

In 1979, it was called "Winter." Now, we have storms of less intensity that deliver less snow, but because it's more snow than last Winter, it's a major crisis. And, of course, the cause is ... global warming.

I must be dumber than I even realized. When it's hotter than I remember it being in Summer, the cause is "global warming." And when it's colder and snowier than anyone can remember (that means more than two years) in Winter, the cause is also "global warming." I can't quite figure out how that works.

I also can't quite figure out what Physics has to do with weather. I was a Physics major in college. One thing we did NOT study or experiment with in Physics (classes or labs) was ... weather.

When I lived in Chicago, I remember 2 big snowstorms . . . the first when I was pretty young in 1967, called simply "The Big Snow." I was able to simply walk over our 4' chain link fence. And this was in the city proper - I grew up about 1 1/2 miles due east of Midway Airport.

Then when I was home from grad school over Christmas, we had the Blizzard of '79. Took a week to reopen the airports.

There were some articles published back then about the certainty of The Coming Ice Age, but most of us just called it Winter.

Growing up in the NE, we had winter every winter.  12-14 feet was normal.  The small town had to dig out with front end loaders and dump the snow in the Hudson River.  Now they get so little that the snow areas open late and close early.  The summers are so humid you would think you were in the South.  Up there they just blame in on the "city folk" who are responsible for everything which has gone wrong the last 40 years.

Works for me

yep, thanksgiving somewhere around 1967, 24" 6' -8' drifts in spots up in Naugatuck. We dug tunnels. I have a hankerin' to dig a few now. I got like a 12' pile in the front yard now from where the frontloader dude came back and pushed all back,,,again...  :P

Broke a control cable on the blower, rigged it, works better than ever.

BTW, for all you snow buyers we have just recently replenished our stocks and now have planty of snow available for all our loyal customers. Order now, no telling how long it might last. Except for the 6" to 12" they're calling for next Tuesday.  ;/

This year global warming brought us "Snowpocalypse 1/11"!!javascript:void(0);javascript:void(0);

Our "blizzard" starts this afternoon. I woke up to about 3" on the ground and running at a rate of 1"/hr until the brunt of it hits late afternoon.
I'm just glad I'm off until tomorrow afternoon.
The hour is fast approaching,on which the Honor&Success of this army, and the safety of our bleeding Country depend.Remember~Soldiers, that you are Freemen, fighting for the blessings of Liberty-that slavery will be your portion, and that of your posterity,if you do not acquit yourselves like men.GW8/76

Las Vegas:  Partly cloudy, 52*, a tad windy.  Wonder when the snow will hit here?   >:D

Notice how no matter what the weather does it's "Global Warming !!!!"  fault.  Holy flamin' Mohammad on a pogo stick.  What will it take to get the True Believers to get it that that dog won't hunt anymore.
