A good read, but it got ugly when Michael Moore entered the story.

A good read, but it got ugly when Michael Moore entered the story.

MM brings ugly (and stupid and ignorant) wherever he goes.

I think part of the lack of impetus is that "they" couldn't make the rightwing nutjob label stick.
It's telling how quickly the rhetoric went quiet when it began to show just how badly the lefties running the system failed to properly address the nutjob when there was plenty of early warning signs and ample LE involvment before he went off the deep end.
The sheriff being the prime guilty party.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

The Democrats lost their zeal for gun control in 1994. I think it would take something far different than what we've seen in the way of multiple victim shootings for gun control to gain any traction. Maybe a shooting with an AR that had been altered to full-auto, used armor-piercing ammo, had been equipped with every feature banned in the '94 bill, bought at a gun show through private transfer by someone with a history of mental issues, but who nonetheless had not been previously flagged as a prohibited person when making multiple handgun purchases, and had said mean things about Chuck Schumer on Twitter.

And wasn't the sheriff the one screaming the loudest?

I think some of it is:

1) We tried the assault weapon ban and it pretty much accomplished nothing.  It didn't help that they then said more was needed 5 minutes after that passed.
2) It is pretty obvious to anyone who looks that none of these laws takes guns out of the hands of criminals.
3) The gun grabbers have not really changed their rhetoric much since 1994 IMO, and gun rights advocates have done a pretty decent job of getting information out and reacting strongly to gun grabber disinformation.  The recent guns in Mexico headlines is a good example.
4) The prevalence of CHL laws and CHL holders around the country has taken away some of the fear of guns in the hands of law abiding citizens.

Also, I never really thought about the idea of carrying an AR-15 pistol, but that does look pretty cool as an open carry item.

Is Sheriff Whatshisname from Arizona still employed?  If so, why?

Quote
Some 85 percent of gun owners (and 89 percent of Americans) would endorse a bill to require background checks for all guns sold at gun shows.
If true, this is a major problem.  Why can't people grok that the exact same laws are in force inside gunshows as everywhere else?

because Katie said there are no laws inside gun shows. just like there's no law against internet ordered firearms being shipped straight to the buyer. oh wait.
