Music downloader...Cloudplayer...crapware
« on: April 05, 2011, 03:52:17 AM »
Honestly, Amazon, I don't want your Cloudplayer or downloader crapware on my machine.

Trying to get "Mean Street" from Fair Warning Van Halen on my machine and had to click half-a-dozen denials to get the tune. Amazon used to be pretty cool... one click, pick destination, done.  Now their "one-click"service...ain't. Sorted out now but sheesh.

Speaking of the tune - one of my tops from VH... Mean Street.

One of my favorite VH songs in human beings.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

I downloaded from Amazon once.

Did not get the album that I wanted, software was a total PITA.

I got a credit from them for what I did not get.

Software deleted from computer. What a total waste of time it was.

I share your pain.

I like that one too. How about "Poundcake", off of the same album? (iirc)
Not much VH I don't like, lead singer regardless.

Huh.  I never had any issues with Amazon's music downloader.  Have they changed it recently?

Apparently so. I had to click through 6-8 nag screens last night just to get the mp3. Never had that trouble before.

I haven't used it in close to a year.  IIRC, once you install the software, you pay for the music, get some proprietary file that tells the app what to download, load that into the app (dbl click the file), then it downloads and you're done.

It should be a one time only thing.  They launched their "cloud" service this week and it'll try and get you to set things up so that it downloads there first.

Given that Amazon won't let you download the MP3 more than once w/out the cloud storage I think this is a good thing.  Hey, free backup for all your Amazon purchases.  I like that.

Well that explains part of it.

I refuse their software on my machine. I download stuff piecemeal, so I can avoid the DL manager, too. Two layers of backup at home so I don't see how their app could be a benefit.
Anyway, I just DL'd another mp3 (Clapton "Promises") and no nag screens.  =|

Fire/Tornado/Earthquake/Hurricane/Flood takes out your house and all your backups are gone.

Nice to have one off site.  Especially if it's free. :)

I have an offsite back up I control living at a friend's house.  My home server backs up to this box every night via rsync over ssh. :D

Never had trouble with Amazon until last night, and now it seems as if all is well. Marketing, I guess. Damn those marketing folks...

I used it not long ago.  No probs.  You only have to download the crapware if you want the "get the whole album" option.  You can do singles easily with only a couple clicks.
