I'm a bad man
« on: April 29, 2011, 10:24:49 PM »
I'm taking my little brother to the hunter's safety field day tomorrow.  He has to bring a firearm, with no ammo, to show he can carry it correctly.  Since every adult member of his family is a felon obviously they don't own any guns and I'll be providing one for the field day.

I have him convinced I'm going to make him carry one of my Shiloh Sharps .45-70 rifles since it is a single shot and it is somehow safer.  One of those rifles is like shouldering a digging bar.  He can barely pick one of them up and it is almost as tall as he is.

I'm really going to set him up with a nice youth model 20 ga shotgun.

 =D

My club hosts those. It's a good time. I volunteer for them, although since I myself don't hunt, I get stuck in the clubhouse helping them clean their guns after getting to do a round of trap, and get high off of Hoppe's #9.  [tinfoil]
I promise not to duck.

I love Field Days.  Much better then just teaching in the classroom.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

No offense personally, but that's sort of like starting a petite young gal new shooter out with a .44 magnum.  Some joke, hah?

Psssst... you're right.  I kind of "flashed" on the main body.

Sorry.

Although I'm progressing toward perfect Perfection, that's a step backward.

Should have told him he'd be carrying my 40mm.

Seriously though, good joke. How'd he like the day out? :)

Just got back and I dropped him off at home.  He had a great time, we even had proper hunting weather with cold and snow!  To make sure he was getting the full experience I loaded him up with a pack with all the basics in it, a hunting knife on his belt, and an orange vest.

They even did a little shooting which was awesome.  10 rds out of a single shot 22 and what looked like 10 yards.  Each kid had a dedicated volunteer for that portion.  Andrew didn't do bad at all on the shooting considering this was his second time ever firing a gun and it was his first time with a peep sight.  He put most of the 10 rounds in the vitals of the 6" tall bear silhouette.

Good on ya! Your guidance should help little Andrew avoid being like his relatives. ;)
