Most people say "steel" but in fact it's "still".

Dude, it's pronounced AWSOME!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

"Still" as in "still running"  ;)

All of the ads I have ever seen on TV have pronounced it "Steel".  One would think that their marketing folks would have to buy off on that.

I picked "Log Cutterator" because "Wood Cutterer" was not available!

Had I not heard the commercials ("steel," "steal") I would have pronounced it "shteel," with the "sh" sorta halfway between "s" and "sh," and the "ee" sorta halfway between "i" and "ee."

But that's the German 1/4 of me coming out.

("Steel," as in ferrous metal, is "stahl" ["shtahl"] in German, if I recall correctly.)

The German Youth motto:

Quote
Zäh, wie Leder,

Schnell, wie ein Windhund,

Hart, wie Kruppstahl

"Tough as leather,

Quick as a greyhound,

Hard as Krupp steel"

I think there's another line in there, but I don't remember it.

Around here it is commonly pronounced "shteel"

Product name pronunciation can be a funny thing. A number of years ago there was a new "personal fragrance" that came on the market. I don't remember if it was for men or women, and it doesn't matter. During their TV ads in the first year, they made a HUGE deal out of making sure that, although the name was spelled C-A-N-O-E it was pronounced "cah-no-way' "

Fast forward a year,, and their own ads were pronouncing it "cah-noo' "

I would have chosen, "I Don't" but alas yet another potential correct answer left off the list. You just can't get good help these days.

"Die Katzen im Schnee, geht der Schnee weg, die Katzen in den Schmutz"

Cats like playing in snow?  The only time mine "played" in snow was when it was just starting and they sometimes batted at snowflakes until they got wise to the fact that snowflakes were cold and turned wet.  Cats don't like cold and wet.

Let out with snow on the ground, it was funny to watch them take a step, shake off that paw, take another step, shake off that paw, repeat.

I agree there's something unsavory about cutting wood with one's Stihl.
