Question about Red Wing Oxfords
« on: May 19, 2011, 12:50:38 PM »
Are Red Wing Oxfords as good as their work boots? I'm looking at the 8637, 8703, and 8704. I need a pair of shoes to wear for the office and I'm tired of the department store brands that are made of tissue paper and styrofoam and look like crap after 3 months.

Also, are all Red Wind products resolable or just their work boots? I'd like these shoes to last me for some time given a little care and repairs when necessary.

Some of their models cannot be resoled. I would ask at the Red Wing store, or call/email RW customer service.

I've had great luck with Hush Puppies dress shoes.

Floorsheim is also another good brand.

Yes, they are.  Excellent construction and they wear like iron.  I was so very bummed when they stopped making a wingtip style and went to the oxford-only line.

Havana Joe's make a good dress/casual oxford, on my second sole with my two pairs (one black, one brown - find what you like and buy it in every color).

I wear them pretty much daily.  I have a rule that I don't wear shoes I couldn't count on for E/E-ing through the woods.

Thanks for all the other suggestions. All I could think of for good shoes were Red Wing and Allen-Edmonds, and Allen-Edmonds are way to dressy for what I need.

My Timberland "pro" boots are the most comfortable workboot I've ever had, and they make them in an oxford as well. I had some floorsheim safety shoes that were not comfortable to me.
