Not to detract from that image, but it would be neat if someone made a similar image with a Revolutionary musket, and Garand, and an M4.

Calling Oleg.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Welcome back.

Spent three hours Saturday morning with my Cub Scouts, some Boy Scouts, and some Girl Scouts, placing flags on the graves of veterans in the local cemetary.  4,217 flags.  A Spanish-American war vet.  A Medal of Honor winner from WWII, next to his brother who won a Silver Star in WWI.  A local boy killed in Afghanistan a few months ago.  It makes you proud when you can see in the eyes of a boy that he gets it, and understands why it's important...

A salute to those serving, a handshake to those who have served and are still with us today and a prayer for those who have passed.

Please!

We have Veterans' Day for us veterans.

We have Armed Forces Day for those currently serving.

Memorial Day is the day when we are supposed to remember and honor those who fell in our defense. IMHO it does not honor them to dilute the meaning of Memorial Day with expressions of gratitude to living veterans and current active duty forces. Is it too much to ask that on the ONE day out of the year we are asked to remember the fallen heroes, we just do so?

A salute to all who have served or volunteered to serve, even if they survived the experience or were medically discharged from basic training. Or for that matter, anyone who has diligently reported for the draft and been rejected.
