Modern instrumental music...: ... ?
« on: June 17, 2011, 07:10:02 PM »
So, has anyone got any recommendations?

Here's some stuff I like..
1) Max Richter's music. Most prominently it was featured in Shutter Island..

Some good compositions by him..
The nature of daylight
Last Days -seems sort of appropriate for these times..
This..

Michael Nyman
Departure (Gattaca OST)
All imperfect things (The Piano OST, I think)

Howard Hansen: Second ("Romantic") Symphony, Miramont Overture.

Anything by Philip Glass

Henryk Górecki: Especially his #3.

Ferde Grofe.  Only wrote one major piece that I know of, The Grand Canyon Suite.  Most of his time was taken up by arranging for Paul Whiteman.

WHATEVER YOUR DEFINITION OF "INFRINGE " IS, YOU SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT.

Anything with oboes.....  =D
Impressed yet befogged, they grasped at his vivid leading phrases, seeing only their surface meaning, and missing the deeper current of his thought.

Not all Philip Glass is purely instrumental.
Glass' piano work on the silent movie Dracula is a favorite of mine.
