I finally have all the family photos in one place. One of my mother's father's family: My great-grandparents and the ten kids, taken when my grandfather was 5 years old. 1890. German background, at hallettsville, Texas. The usual frozen faces and the uncomfortable formal clothing of that era.
My mother's mother's brothers in a corral at the XIT ranch, where they cowboyed in the late 19th/early 20th centuries.
Y'know, I can sure see the changes over the years in "What is a house?" My parents' first house was small; two bedrooms and one bath. Detached one-car garage. Wood frame. Now, for all that the architecture has changed from Mike's parents' house, EVERYBODY wants a 4/3 with three-car garage with HVAC. And no more narrow lots.
Narrow lots, no A/C and front porches meant the neighbors all knew each other and socialized--in those days before the Boob Toob.
A different world...
