Anybody Try Lightload Towels?
« on: July 25, 2011, 08:37:31 PM »
I just saw these on Amazon and for six bucks figured I'd give them a try, but wondered if anyone here has actually used them. I didn't necessarily get them for the whole "survival towel" thing, but they seem like they could come in handy in an Arthur Dent kind of way.

The reviews and YouTube videos seem pretty positive for the towel's main intended purpose, plus one of these small tins will fit right in my man purse.

Anybody Try Lightload Towels?

Something about the name is so horribly... wrong.

I have used compressed towels before.  Pretty cool stuff, and more durable than I expected.

The towels are reusable and will last until they don't.

Truth in advertising!

Still, an interesting product.  I wonder if I'm not already as well suited with the baby wipes I carry into the field.

Never heard of them.  You will need to post your views when you use them.

I've used similar ones before.  They work.

So as a follow-up, these arrived and I tried one out. I like them. They're a lot stronger and more substantial than I expected and are good at soaking up water. The ones I got are the 12" x 24', and I would have no problem using one to dry off after an impromptu swim or whatever. I don't know that I'd expect one to last a long time (though people claim they wash and reuse them a lot). As an "emergency backup towel" though, I think they're pretty nifty, especially for how incredibly compact they are in the original packaging. I've already put one in the vehicle kit, one in the BOB, and one in the EDC and work bag, and I'll likely throw a couple in the glove compartment, and/or actually order a couple of the beach towel sized ones.

They are pretty handy, but they're nowhere near big enough to wrap yourself in on the moons of Jaglan Beta, but it might be enough to cover your eyes if ever in danger and need to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.
I promise not to duck.
