Ipod Touch dropped: Repair/Replace

I dropped my 32gb iTouch this morning.  It landed flat on it's face on the asphault and cracked the screen.  It still works fine, but there is a spiderweb of cracks starting in the lower left corner.   :facepalm:  :'(  :'(  :'(

I live out of this thing.  Personal email, corporate email, finances, books, movies, music, podcasts, games, etc. 

Should I repair it at roughly $100 (send it out and have someone else do the work) or replace it at $250ish (+/- $30)?  This is a 3rd Gen, so I would be "upgrading" it to the new 4th Gen (wifey has one, so we could do "facetime"), but the siren song of fixing this one for much less is tempting.

On two occasions, I have been asked [by members of Parliament], "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" I am not able to rightly apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

I found a local repair shop that'll do the job for $58.  Same day service too.

I found a local shop that replaced the screen for $58 parts and labor.

I have to say, this has been a tough little device.  I don't baby it, nor do I keep it in a case.  This is the second time it has been dropped on pavement.  Even after the screen broke this time, it was still usable.

If the repair doesn't work, check ebay for old iphones, etc.

I have an iphone 3 that I need to sell. Not many people want it as a phone, but it would still work great as an itouch.

Does your book do ANY of the tasks an iPod or tablet can do beyond providing the text of a single book?  ;/

What kind of shop is it?

Also, did you check if you were under warranty?

A general "cell phone" repair shop, but they advertise a lot of ipod/iphone/tablet type repairs.  

It isn't under warranty.  Apple's warranty is 1 year and I've had it for 1.5yrs.  Besides, I doubt this would have been covered.  I dropped it from 3'.  I'm lucky a broken screen is all that happened.
