This case is really out of hand. What's more, it sounds like some officials are playing favorites.

I remember playing doctor when I was a little kid. I may have gotten into trouble, but not with the law.

Kid's play doctor, it happens, most kids have probably been there done that. Soooo he went a little far based on his experiences with the doctors, explain to him he can't do that just like the thousands of other things kids do. Right there with the family on this one.

I figure you can google it, but the charges against Julian Assange stem from two women who know each other who both sought him out due to his celebrity for consensual sex at two different parties, which they had.  He did not use a condom, which they protested to after the fact.  Apparently it is specifically illegal in Sweden to have sex with someone without a condom unless they know you aren't using a condom, or some such.  It's not known whether he mislead them or what, but he had sex without a condom with both of them, and they either didn't know or didn't care until after the fact.  They initially went to the police (together) to see if they could legally compel someone to have an HIV test, and the charges were built from there.

So apparently in Sweden "Yes we had consensual sex, but I didn't realize he wasn't using a condom" is grounds for some kind of sexual misconduct charge, but the way it is reported in English-speaking new media, you would think he raped them.

Thanks for the explanation, CNYCacher. You're right, it's not what I've been led to believe.

Trying some clown for not using a condom is a far cry from trying him for treason or espionage. I'd imagine the condom charge isn't a hanging crime.

The DA has sovereign immunity, just like a judge.  (It's good to be the king)  That's what makes the Nifong case so unusual, he actually got punished for his wrongdoings.

If it is hanging, a condom won't be much use.
