It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

I got my iPhone 4S 16g yesterday and love it so far. Still learning it all.
I might not last very long or be very effective but I'll be a real pain in the ass for a minute!

My daughter had an HTC 'Droid ...

... for about three weeks. Major problems, of many types. Horrendous battery life. No reception in our house, where my 4+ year old plain-Jane cell phone has plenty of bars. The 'Droid would just lock up at random, requiring a shut-down and cold boot.

Verizon at the store where we bought it was less than helpful. The tech people couldn't fix any of the problems, and the manager flat-out refused to put me in touch with someone higher in the food chain who could authorize an exchange for a substitute product. Quote: "I refuse to allow you to escalate this matter."

Oh, yeah?

Within a week I was on a first name basis with the exec assistant to the president of Verizon Wireless. She acknoledged that the HTC 'Droid was a problem device, and she upgraded my daughter to the Blackberry of her choice at no charge to us.

The Droid model we had is no longer offered. Not a surprise. Maybe the newer models are better, but I wouldn't risk it.

What's out there for Android now is pretty damn good, actually.

Check out www.androidforums.com

I've had an HTC Desire (which was ok), now a Motorola Electrify (which is awesome)

Yes, Android will suck with battery life. Although my Electrify does pretty good...

Got a Pantech Crossover last month after I laundered my well aged Razor. Been quite happy with it thus far.

Tech challenged?  Unless you are interested in becoming less so, I'll actually recommend the Iphone.  You can tinker more with a Droid, but the Iphone is geared towards those not particularly interested in doing so, and has a larger selection of apps which have the benefit of working with/on a defined, limited set of tech+operating system, so they generally work smoothly.  Droids come in a much wider variety of hardware units, and there are several OS versions in service. As a result, apps might or might not work well on the phone you end up with.

Flip side - I've been a Droid fan since the first one came out a couple of years ago, and have always thought that the Android Market has plenty of apps available (does it really matter that Apple's app store has half a million apps, and the Android Market has "only" a quarter million or something like that?  *I* don't think so). Currently using a Droid Bionic, one of the newer Droids with a dual-core processor and access to the 4G/LTE wireless network, and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I've had very little trouble with app incompatibility - and only with stuff I had no real need for.  Biggest problems, lately, are that there are still issues with switching between 3G and 4G networks that can result in temporary loss of data connection (may be solely a Verizon issue - I don't know if AT&T is having similar troubles or not), and manufacturers/phone providers are catching onto the notion of loading bloatware on their phones.  There are a few programs which come on the phone which I will never use (because other options are cheaper and better), but in stock form I can't uninstall them and if they're ever used, it's something like $10/month. There's an option for that, too - by rooting, it's possible to gain unlimited access and uninstall even those "untouchable" programs, as well as getting into loading custom operating system ROMs.

Most important reasons to go Droid, for me, are that with a Droid you can (generally) change out a battery and you have removable storage (microSD card), neither of which is an option with an Iphone.

There's not one single "Droid".

There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of Android phones of various quality.

I have a Samsung Galaxy and I swear by it. I have not experienced a single bug or malfunction in it in six months of use. The interface is just as user-friendly as an iPhone would be.

That said, iPhone 4S will have a slightly more accurate satnav feature if anybody cares.

Don't count out the Blackberry....my Torch has all the upsides of a touch-screen plus a slide-out keyboard that I can use one-handed, if necessary (....and I've often found it necessary with my line of work).  Good apps available for it, too. And the sound quality of its MP3 player & internal speaker is fantastic.
