They should counter-sue since he stated he would give them money.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Any judge that doesn't throw that out deserves to be horse whipped.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I'm no lawyer, but I thought a contract originating out of an illegal act is generally considered to be null and void. Also, a contract entered into under duress is also null and void.

I know this was a serious article, but the attitude of the kidnapper in this paragraph just cracked me up:

Quote
"I, the defendant, asked the Rowleys to hide me because I feared for my life. I offered the Rowleys an unspecified amount of money which they agreed upon, therefore forging a legally binding oral contract," Dimmick said in his hand-written court documents. He wants $235,000, in part to pay for the hospital bills that resulted from him being shot by police when they arrested him.

This here is my favorite part:

Neighbors have said that the couple fed Dimmick snacks and watched movies with him until he fell asleep and they were able to escape their home unharmed.

What, they didn't sing him a lullaby?

I find that the couple feeling threatened and thus trying to trick their kidnapper into complacency so they can escape much more plausable then agreeing to a "contract" to hide a strange man possible wanted for murder, which would make them accersories after the fact to the same murder.

Stupid, stupid criminal makes me laugh with stupid lawyer tricks.

They should have just shot him.

That's what I learned in my Business Law classes.

Most people don't know the right way to do that. And it's awfully messy, besides. Much less mess to cut the subclavian... works 2-3 times faster.

For the lulz, you could put a ziptie around his neck and tighten it up.

You can tell I really don't like kidnappers. Or criminals in general.  >:D

I guess those videos that show you how to break out of tie wraps don't really apply to one around your neck.

The article stated that the couple started this by suing him for $75,000 for emotional distress.  This is just his amateur lawyering to get them back.  The couple's lawyers should be smacked upside the head (my apologies to our barristers) for suggesting that they should sue the guy in prison.  Besides money (not much from a convict) what is there to gain?

Well, that just underscores the "I told you so" that they should have killed him.

Agreed, and I was going to say the same thing for his lawyer, but then I noticed that he filed his action pro se.

I don't know why the couple sued him unless he had some assets they could go after.  If not, then it is a huge waste of time for the couple.

As if that ain't enough ... Joren van der Sloot is suing Chile for $13 million because they turned him over to Peru for murdering a chick he picked up in a casino.
