Who would have thought you could dig miles of tunnels and no one would notice? After all we find smaller ones coming in from Mexico.http://news.yahoo.com/digging-china-nuclear-tunnels-013008319.html
But the strongest condemnation has come from nonproliferation experts who worry that the study could fuel arguments for maintaining nuclear weapons in an era when efforts are being made to reduce the world’s post-Cold War stockpiles.
This sort of sentiment was common during cold war days and it always seemed to me to be one of the silliest and naive views a person could have. It resulted in arms control people bashing the US for producing more weapons while completely ignoring the Soviets and others who were doing the same thing and more. I guess those people are still out there.
Hmmmm.....no wonder the US Military's push for more advanced bunker-busters.....
It makes sense if you realize they were rooting for the other side.
Speaking of which. The USAF recently took delivery of some new 30,000 lb bunker busters. Word has it that they've outfitted B2's with a carriage system so they can carry a pair of them at a time. Reputed unclassified penetration is 60 yards of 5000 psi reinforced concrete.
I recall seeing a story that the Air Force was looking at satellite systems to drop kinetic warheads from orbit also. Makes me wonder if they have something like that already.
