Dodge truck or SUV owners?
« on: December 12, 2011, 08:01:22 PM »
Seems all Dodge vehicles have pretty much the same factory radio. Can anyone remind me how to set the buttons to local stations? I've tried everything I can think of and still have no stations preset. Looks like I'll be in the area for a while so I might as well settle in.
Thanks!

Well, since it doesn't look like any Dodge owners are gonna step up...  =D

Here's what I found on a Google search:
Quote
Set the radio to the station that you want, press the set button, then press
the button that you want to accept the station. Remember that each button
should be able to accept two stations (on FM) so if you want it saved as the
second station, press the set button twice before pressing the station
button that you want to accept it.

I can't vouch for that, since I drive a Hyundai.

That seems to be how I remember it on my mini van.

Push the set button twice for the 2nd level of stations.

Weird.  What ever happened to "push and hold down"?  Or is that distinctly a Ford thing?

This reminds me of a book I read in college, "The design of everyday things".  It postulated that if the interface to use something isn't intuitive and natural, then it's probably poorly designed.  That the device in question should fit in with preexisting conceputal models, so there is no learning curve.

My Silverado is push and hold to set the presets, too.

So you're saying you should be able to manually tune the station you want, then pull the preset button out, then push it back in to set it?   ;/

Hit set.  Then hit the button you want it stored in.

Hit set twice for the 2nd bank of presets.

So says my Dodge Ram.  So say we all.

You're welcome to disagree, but I tend to think if it's easy to forget how to do some basic operation with something, it's probably poorly designed.

And that's not to knock Dodge.  We actually talk about this a lot when dealing with user interface parts on software we're writing.  Designing something that's intuitive and easy to use is much more challenging then it looks.

No, I totally agree!  How many different ways are there to set a digital watch? Should be a standard way.  Perhaps we can get some Democrat to make a law...

That's the way my Chevy truck's AM radio buttons works, all 5 of them. That FM stuff is just a silly fad, it'll never catch on anyway.

Yep, that's how it looks when we have to push you Ford and Chevy drivers down the road.  Next time, pick a better truck.   =D

Try setting the stations on an aftermarket radio.  The Pioneer in my truck is a nightmarish PITA, requiring going through not one, but TWO menus before you can set the station.

Course, these young'ns would probably stroke out trying to set the buttons on an old analog setup without the benefit of instructions.  That'd be an interesting thing to watch.   >:D

Teach me to start a thread then forget about it. Thanks for the answer DD (and AZ). I don't know why but it never occurs to me to look up truck stuff on google. Thanks. I kept trying to just press and hold, but that didn't work, tried pulling/pushing, nothing there either, hold down set and preselect button at same time, nothing. And yeah, Nick, I think that was pretty standard at some point on some vehicle because press/hold was the first thing I tried without even thinking about it and it had to come from somewhere! If more things were intuitive...

Jamie, I don't think there are ten stations here I'd want to listen to, but thanks! :)

If you'd drive like you had somewhere to be, we wouldn't be able to ride up on your ass now would we? But the grill doesn't stay there long before we scoot around you and leave you having dust for lunch.

Son of a bitch, but I do. Dam. Dad's 1965 Dodge Coronet....

I had one of those. Bought it from a shipmate for $300 in '85. Drove it to Oklahoma pulling a U-haul trailer then went on to CT. Burned a wheel bearing just outside of Effingham IL at about 2:00am. That cost me most of a day of travel time.
The one I owned had the 361 big block IIRC.
