So is it bad that this thread has inspired my to look for a Savage 99 in .308 and put an ACOG on it?

If you're trying not to make it look like a mall ninja rifle, you might consider something other than an ACOG. There's other scopes (Leupold, for example) that have longer eye relief than ACOG's and also have illuminated reticles, and would look more conventional. They're also not as expensive.

Just a suggestion.

Very true. I doubt I could bring myself to put a scope that is triple (or more!) the price of the rifle onto a rifle. I still like the juxtaposition of the ACOG with the Savage, though.
