If you knew your well structured, coldly efficient, German history, you would know that only ONE von Moltke drove the French out of Alsace and Lorraine, and that younger and elder infers father and son, while they were actually uncle and nephew.

I like to think of the lion's share of German history as an exercise in applied anarchy (~400AD to 1700AD).  The new-fangled German history from 1700-now is just a fad.

There's another huge difference between the French and Germans.

The French, behind their fortifications, say feche le vache!

The Germans, in front of the French fortifications, say "Fetch the Skoda."

French were bad asses for a long time in history, pre 1815 and the Germanic kingdoms used to be their cannon fodder.

Mom's side is a mostly high German so I'd probably have to fight with myself if Germany and France went to war.

OTOH, Germany was France's butt-boy from ~1600~1700 and during Napoleon's rampages.

After WWI France invested in concrete, but failed to realize that men can be cured harder than concrete.

I think that all German History is applied anarchy.  There's just better score keeping since the 1700's....

And they've been pissy about it ever since.

And, we helped secure THEIR independence in World War II. For all of the assistance that the United States provided, De Gaulle was a consummate ahole of monumental proportions, at times threatening to refuse to take orders from Eisenhower as SACEUR to the point where Eisenhower had to threaten to shut off the supplies to the French First Army to keep them from breaking on De Gaulle's missions and opening up huge gaps in the Allied lines.
