Backing up data on a mobile phone?
« on: June 13, 2006, 08:05:05 AM »
Hey guys,
I'm one of those people that doesn't have a land line; my mobile is my only phone and it works out pretty well. But I was putting another number in the other day and it occured to me that if my phone was lost/broke I'd be hosed trying to rebuild that database of numbers and names. All my numbers are stored to the phone memory NOT the SIMM card.

So here's my question; is there a piece of software out there that will let me backup my mobile data to my PC?

I have Cingular and am using a Motorola Razr V3; it has a USB/Charging port so it seems like it should be an easy thing to do but I've been all over the Cingular site and can't seem to finds any help there.

Any clues?

Depending on the phone, you can get a data cable and either commercial or freeware to download/modify the data.  I've done it several times to multiple Samsung phones.

http://www.susteen.com/  for the commercial one.  It sometimes includes the cable you need.  If your phone is suported, this is the best way to go.  There's a freeware tool who's name escapes me that might work as well, but it doesn't come with the cable and isn't always safe.  I damaged a phone with it once, but it was replaced under warranty.  The freeware tool is the only way to download the pics from my wife's Samsung cameraphone unless I want to pix message them all to my email account. Sad

I was just looking at their site; yeah this looks like exactly what I need. Cable included.
Thanks again!

All you need is a USB cable and Mototools or Motokit
At least that is all I needed for my V188

You might read up over here Cellphoneforums

Make sure you make one good copy of all the files,  before you start playing with new ringtones and other fun mods.

veloce851; all I really want to do is back-up all my contact info and #s plus maybe up/down load pictures. Nothing fancy.
Moot point as I've ordered the software from susteen, but thanks for the info.
