Meanwhile, over in Egypt . . .

A law is proposed which would allow widowers to, well, read it for yourself . . . and remember to be culturally sensitive to the Islamists.

You just can't make up this stuff

Update: Several Egyptian sources are claiming via Twitter that the story below is false. It has been suggested by some that a rumour may have been placed by sources loyal to former dictator Hosni Mubarak. More to follow.

Really?

I'm not particularly concerned with what happens to my body when I'm dead. But I'm damn sure concerned with my freedom and liberty while I'm living. Did y'all miss the part that addressed doing away with a woman's right to hold a job or get an education?

I don't feel bad about being taken in by this story. It is as believable as most of what comes out of Washington.

Although reported in local Egyptian media, the linked article does state that some are asserting that the necrophilia stuff was a story planted by people loyal to Hosni Mubarek; maybe it was. (Interestingly enough, Jay Leno mentioned it on his show the other night.)

Wonder about the other parts of the story, which deal with lowering the marriage age for girls to 14 and removing a woman's right to an education and employment . . . I hope the Moslem Brotherhood doesn't take Egypt in the same direction as Saudi Arabia and Taliban Afghanistan in that regard.

I haven't a problem with a lower marriage age, per se. (For most of our history, 14 WAS a quite normal age for marriage. Humans aren't any different now.)

In an Islamist society, it is not the age of the bride, but the conditions of the marriage that are the problem.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought
