Is it intentionally waterproof, or did you just get lucky?

I ask because I've been considering the Casio g'Zone Commando from Verizon when I finally get a phone that's more than the basic "free" ones.  If there's a legitimately waterproof i-Phone I'd be interested in checking that out as an alternative.

Not waterproof phones, but Waterproof cases for them

I rock an Otterbox for my RAZR, but if I had an iPhone, Lifeproof would be the way to go.

A buddy last weekend dropped his phone in a bucket of water.  He dried it out in some rice, he got 2 calls out of it before I guess a drop of water still inside moved just right to short it out.

I was just reading in Wired magazine that there is some company you can send your iPhone to and they use some kind of vapor-deposition technique to coat it in a very thin hydrophobic layer that supposedly makes it waterproof, to the point that you can use it in the shower and dunk it with no problem. I don't understand how they manage the headphone jack, but they claimed it worked.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

I have had great luck with food dehydrators & dunked electronics.  Roughly 75%.

True dat.  The dehydrator has worked better for me than the uncooked rice.  I keep hoping that I will also get some delicious smartphone fruit leather out of the deal, but so far no go.

Our fire chief dropped a $2500 county owned BK portable down a well  =(

It's still there, along with at least one dead animal.

Whats with dropping electronics down wells and into buckets of water? Doesn't anyone here drop them into toilets like normal people?

This was an old railroad well on a ranch where we sometimes fill our fire engines.

The Great Flood of 2011 messed it up pretty badly.

When carrying a radio in a chest pack and leaning over looking into wells, one should make sure the retaining straps are tight.

I'm just glad that it wasn't me
