Looky what followed me home!
« on: June 14, 2012, 10:18:57 PM »
Haven't owned a truck in several years. Been thinking about one for a while, and big raise I got gave me an excuse.

I resisted the urge to spend a ton. Got a great rate and bought a gently used 09 instead of getting something ridiculous.

It's an XLT with 20k miles. Went ahead and got the 75k bumper to bumper because the dealer gave me a great deal on it.

Total payment is not a whole lot more than the malibu was.

It has Sync, which i like, hydraulic fold out steps on the bed. Very nice truck. Much like my old F150 only newer and more plusher'er

Shiny!
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Power train/engine? And what is synch? I'm a little out of date on all the new gee gaws they add the newest of the three clunkers I rotate through is 20 years old.

Sync is Ford/microsoft's nifty little handsfree system. Through bluetooth, i can play music from my iphone 4s, make/receive calls handsfree, have Siri read my text messages to me, have Siri send text messages, etc etc. It's quite cool.

Powerplant: I got the 4.6, and I really was nervous about that decision. In my price range, the only 5.4s were much higher mileage.

I think i made the right call. I only tow a light utility trailer with a motorcycle in it (total weight less than 2k lbs), and this truck has 20k miles on the clock. I can sacrifice a small amount of horsepower for the low price and miles.

4x4?

Nope. The 4x4 i looked at in my price range was high mileage. We already have one AWD vehicle in the stable so it's all good.

Update:

I thought 4.6 was the "wimpy" motor

Apparently in this model year they introduced the 3v 4.6 from the mustang

I bought that. TOTALLY by accident.

As you can see here, it's significantly better than the old 2v 4.6

In addition to the more powerful motor, it has a 6 speed auto tranny. Nice.

Total accident. Winning!

For comparison, my old F150 specs. I had the 5.4 in my old one:

Nice....and you'll like the 4.6. I got the same engine in my '08XLT, and I get better gas mileage from it than I got from my Nissan Frontier. The 4.6 is a better choice for a truck that isn't being used for heavy hauling & towing.   If you need a heavy hauler/tower, you're better off getting the F250.

Again, very nice.....let us know how Synch works for you....
