Hawaii Becomes First State in the U.S. to Ban Plastic Bags
« on: June 20, 2012, 09:19:43 PM »
Have you ever tried to pick up dog crap with a paper bag? Does this mean I can leave it where it falls?

What did people pick up dog poop before plastic bags? I'm 38 and I remember life before plastic bags.

We did the natural thing and let dogs poop outdoors, in the grass, where God intended them to poop. And we damn well left it there.

I use a pooper scooper to keep my backyard tidy. A lab and weimeraner produce a lot of poop.

I only use the bag when walking. Hate it. In the yard I use a shovel and hoe. No poo on the hands.

Dogs think outside is place to poop, and will poop in places they don't know not to. If you live in a suburb or take your dog to a park to poop, it needs to get picked up by someone, because everone has to poop their dogs and that's a lot of freeking dogs.
While I also prefer pooper scoopers (especially given the sheer quanity of poop I clean up on a regular basis) they are somewhat difficult to carry about everywhere.
The obvious answer is the biodegradable bags that are basically identical to plastic, but are made of corn or something. And I am pretty sure they even sell them in special rolls with a despencer that clips to your leash, for pooping and cleaning on the go.
My boss has none of these for traveling with her dogs though, a. Because the plastic ones from the grocery store are still free and legel here, and b. Anatolian poop is a bit to large for those baggies.

Back in the day when landfill could burn the trash, plastic bags weren't a problem.

I still don't know what is the problem  ???

I made the mistake of putting a few large pieces of styrofoam in a plastic bag in my attic, and the same happened - when I went to move them a year or so later, the bag disintegrated into powder wherever I touched it: I had to vacuum the bag off the contents.

This...

I thought the grocery bags were polymerized cornstarch now?

(One of the price pressures on corn, and food prices in general against animal feed, HFCS used in "everything" practically these days, along with Ethanol subsidies...)
I promise not to duck.

In that case, the bags might have more food value than the groceries inside  :P
