I see opportunity here...sell them defective parachutes and you will be rid of a lot of them very quickly.

Seems like that's about what they are. I don't even know if they're "FAA Approved". The website lists basic avionics stuff like airspeed indicator and even a freakin' altimeter as "optional". So I'm guessing no transponder either, and yet the site says they're rated to 10,000 feet.

So it's a fancy ultralight (<70kg) seaplane with an electric motor that will cruise at ~87 mph at up to 10,000 feet?

Electric? So the 70kg includes structure, motor, and batteries?

Sure.

I'm skeptical that this is any more real than those fancy six-motor personal airplanes, flying saucers, and personal helicopter harnesses that they used to feature (and sometimes advertise) in Popular Science . . . many have been "almost ready for mass production" for decades.

Just what we need.... more LSA's.  The last 3 violations of airspace I've seen were LSA pilots.  Please someone give me control of a HAWK battery!

I was looking into those, but I wasn't planning on ever going near anything resembling a real airport.

I thought it might be fun and handy for "smoke watching" in our neighborhood, but I don't have enough flat ground for a strip on my 40 acres.

( starting to wonder if there is a short range UAV within reasonable cost ...? )

With the right ultralight, you don't need much more than two to three hundred feet, which is plenty doable on a few acres.

You haven't seen my place  ;)

In all of 40 acres, we've got one sorta level spot that is about 100x200, which happens to be our riding arena.  But then you would have to climb up a side canyon (to the west, into the usual wind) to get above the plateau level.  To the east is the creek bottom with some power lines and there are steep cliffs just east of the creek.

So one might be able to take off OK into a headwind, but then to land you would have to come down the main valley and hook a sharp left at just the right altitude, dance over the power lines, and touch down perfectly. (but the corral/arena/barn is where the strip would have to be!)

There is another mostly flat spot up on top of the hill in the pasture - would have to cut a lot of trees and bulldoze out some stumps.  It would be like landing on a (small!) carrier.
