Don't harass the yoga people when you are homeless in San Francisco.

The comments could lead to one's head explode. Blame the NRA. Right, because a guy with no ID and no address walked into a gun shop (is there still one in SF?) and bought firearms.

well, I'm betting he had a residence at one time in his life and that is when he bought the guns.
If you're homeless in San Francisco you need a gun due to the crime you will encounter, and no way could you bring it into a homeless shelter.
The guy was an idiot for drawing attention to himself though.

Yeah the comments are ( for the most part )  stupid

Blaming the NRA... for a dude having a gun he does not seem to have attacked anyone with?

well, I'm betting he had a residence at one time in his life and that is when he bought the guns.

What I got out of the less than helpful writing in the article was that thery took his guns once, then came back and found more and took them. The story seemed to indicate that he acquired the ones the second time within the weeks between encounters. It could have been bad reporting and he just had a stash of guns somewhere. Otherwise, that's why I mentioned the "blame the NRA" thing.

If he acquired the firearms taken the second time in the last few weeks, he did so illegally (at least in CA, which further shows how ineffective the restrictions are). The moron commenters in SF want to make it sound like he just waltzed into a gun store and bought a "sawed off shotgun" among other things. I know we can't expect more, but it just further spreads uneducated statements regarding "the plague that is firearms".

But he had them. And that was disturbing. [bed-wetting emoticon]

well, I'm betting he had a residence at one time in his life and that is when he bought the guns.

That was my thought.  On his way to down and out, he kept hold of what he could that was useful, valuable and portable.

But

Quote
Robert Johns was on their radar, and when they searched his vehicle they found a sawed-off shotgun, a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, 14 knives and more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition, police said.

Assuming the paper's reporting that right, the short barrel shotgun is going to be a problem.  Unless he should be so fortunate as to have the appropriate Class III paperwork.

A new question for the gunboards to thrash over: "what one gun for when you become homeless?".

Quote
Alarmed, they also asked whether they could search his car, and after he agreed ...

<sigh>.  I suppose if he'd refused permission for the search, they'd have found some excuse to anyway.  It not being, you know, a real home.

It sounds like there may be some mental health "issues" with this guy.  Again, assuming the paper got it right.

(Something's nudging at my memory -- I think there was a case recently in Illinois, about homeless people and RKBA.  I will see what I can find.)

Thankfully police intervened. But you have to wonder; How did he manage to put together a deadly gun collection three weeks after his guns were confiscated?

I am more curious as to what makes these particular guns "deadly," as if other guns aren't deadly. What is it, exactly, that differentiates between a collection of deadly guns and a collection of not deadly (would that be "lively"?) guns?

The kicker? It was July 21, the day after the gunman in Aurora, Colo., killed 12 and wounded 58 at a movie theater.

Is it my imagination, or is the author suggesting a conspiracy?  Why else would that be relevant?

Don't think so.  It's just part of that imperative to find a connection between your dull, drab life and something exciting.  For instance, at almost the very time the shooter was laying waste to the Aurora theater I was in my car on my way to get a slushee from Sonic.  See?  Now I'm personally connected to that event as opposed to living a lonely, pathetic existence that relies on an outing for flavored sugar water and ice for excitement.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

If the only description of the shotgun is "sawn-off", it means nothing.  Most reporters have no clue what the legal limits are for barrel length or overall length.  In fact, as far as guns are concerned, most reporters couldn't distinguish sheep-poop from applebutter.
